Today’s modern and more eco-conscious destination wedding couples have opened up the door to wedding clothing rentals. Women’s dress rental companies like Vow to Be Chic and Rent the Runway burst onto the scene in recent years, but what about the little ones in your wedding away? Enter The Borrowed Boutique. Founded by mother and former physician-turned-entrepreneur, Emma Hostetter, The Borrowed Boutique was born of necessity.

After buying an expensive dress for her daughter’s two-year-old birthday party, inclement weather meant it went unworn and unused. Thus, the idea of a special occasion clothing rental company geared toward kids was born. A lot of women shy away from buying a bridesmaids dress thinking, “When will I wear this again?” Imagine being a parent who has a child in a destination wedding. With constant growth spurts, it is very likely that the special occasion outfit will get worn just once – all the more reason to rent!

The Borrowed Boutique rents designer children’s clothing from infants to teen size 16. The designer pieces are for fashion-conscious couples and parents. Imagine a fairy tale wedding – complete with tulle-adorned flower girls. The girls clothing options include dresses adorned with feathers, fur and sequins and boys can look dapper in pinstriped overalls and suits. Accessories like magnetic necklaces, tights and child-size shrugs are also available to rent. Hosting a more casual wedding? The little ones can stick look sharp in more whimsical and causal options like rompers.

Aside from the practical reason to consider renting your child’s special event clothing, it’s also a great way to get designer pieces for less. With The Borrowed Boutique, couture dresses retailing between $600 to over $1,000 are available to rent between $95-$225. Some of the couture brands carried include Tutu Du Monde, Nellystella and Stella McCartney. In addition to saving on the budget, you can also invest in The Borrowed Boutique with confidence. The company donates 10 percent of proceeds from each rental to the charity Esther’s Children, an anti sex trafficking non-profit.

The clothing can be rented for four or eight days and the package will come with a pre-paid package to return the items after your special event. Four-day rentals run at about $30-$40. The Borrowed Boutique handles cleaning and maintenance of each item once it’s returned. The company ships nationwide in the U.S. and an in-house stylist is available to consult on sizing. Kids will be kids, so what happens if little Sophie drops cake on her glamorous dress? Not to worry – insurance is available for just $5.
