My name is Santiago and I am a professional cinematic wedding videographer in the beautiful, Mayan Riviera, Mexico. Having been in the wedding industry for a long time, I have gathered some helpful tips on what a bride and groom should be looking for when it comes to their wedding video and finding a professional/team they are truly happy with. If you are currently at the stage of searching for the right person to make your wedding video dream come true, check out the tips below … hopefully these will put you on the right path to finding your perfect wedding videographer.
With so much going on during your wedding day, it’s inevitable the whole day may turn into a bit of a blur. The amount of times I have heard from newlyweds that their dream day just flew by is uncountable! But don’t worry, there is a very simple solution for making sure all the memories of your special day remain – a wedding video. But just how do you choose which of those great companies you have been researching?
Take this task as seriously as you do others:
Take finding a wedding videographer as seriously as you do finding a wedding photographer.
Usually, hiring a wedding videographer seems to get pushed back to the final stages of planning a wedding and honestly – it’s so much more important than that! If you do decide to leave booking your wedding videographer closer to your wedding date, remember that most probably, many of the more popular and professional studio’s will not have availability and you may be left to choose from only a small handful of options. This can be avoided by putting this task in line with finding your wedding photographer, which is usually one of the first things to do. I promise, if you make videography one of your priorities, you will not be disappointed with the end result – a beautifully crafted wedding film that is more than you could ever dream of.
Prioritise:
Prioritise the person/companies whose style most closely matches the style of wedding videos you adore. Just like wedding photographers, videographers have their own style and take different approaches to their talent. Wedding videos can be presented in a wide range of ways, some will do this in a documentary style (showing events chronologically) while a cinematic videographer for example (such as myself) will turn a wedding video into more of a short ‘Hollywood’ movie, using different angles and dimensions throughout (a more dramatic finished product). There is no right or wrong way, it just all depends on your preferences and what sort of vibe you would like your wedding video to have.
Research is key:
When you feel like you have found the right videographer for your big day, remember to do your research and read some reviews. This gives you the chance to get a feel for what clients in the past have felt and experienced when working with this particular person/team. Did they capture the most important aspects of the wedding? Where they happy with the finished wedding video? What sort of customer service did they receive throughout the whole process?
While doing your research on a particular company, if there are no red flags and you read nothing but positive reviews that make you even more excited…you may have just found the right company for you! I would encourage you to go ahead and secure your wedding videography with them!
Don’t focus solely on price:
Lastly, but certainly not least, when it comes to choosing and securing your wedding videographer, the old saying of ‘you get what you pay for’ certainly applies. I understand how hiring a videographer can seem like an unnecessary expensive, especially when the wedding budget is quickly being eaten away but let me assure you, if you find somebody you feel comfortable with, who is professional and has a very high quality of service and work, you will never look back. I am not able to speak for every ‘professional,’ but for my clients I make sure they get assistance throughout their whole wedding planning journey, from guidance on the flow of their big day, expertise on where to set up the cameras, and always suggestions on the best time and place for a certain shot, scene or particular look they want to capture. Professional wedding videographers are trained to get the results you are looking for, and are going to adore!
I hope this has given you a little more insight and information on how to choose the right professional for you when it comes to wedding videography for your big day. I hope you consider this (even if it is not with me) as I would HATE for anybody passing through this blog post to not have the pleasure of watching their wedding video for many years to come.
