For Alexandra and Tommy, the best part about having a destination wedding in Mexico– besides their shared love of travel– was that it provided an opportunity to vacation with their family and friends. It was crucial to the pair that they could host numerous small events before their wedding day that made the weekend feel more intimate.

“We wanted our family and friends to meet each other and hang out before the big day,” Alexandra says. “All that bonding is priceless!”

The couple married at Acre Baja in San Jose del Cabo, a city located at the tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. Alexandra and Tommy knew exactly what they were looking for when choosing a venue: an amazing restaurant on-site.

“My husband sent me an article listing restaurant wedding venues and told me to pick a favorite,” the bride says. “We each picked the same favorite!”

In the spirit of vacation, the pair kept their DIYs easy, adding sweet details to their invites themselves and including custom return stamps, both from Etsy. Alexandra wanted to keep the planning process smooth and fun. Having a wedding planner who has experience working with local vendors made it happen.

The tables were adorned with sweet touches, including delicate cards labeled with significant locations to the couple, that added to the allure of the ceremony. The ceremony’s bright flowers, lush greenery, and ocean breeze of San Jose del Cabo added to the aura of tropical romance.

As an ICU nurse who loves details and organization, Alexandra attributes her mindset to the smooth-sailing process of her destination wedding.

“Viewing my wedding as a vacation really saved me from getting stressed about the details. And, it allowed me to say, ‘Hey, I’m on vacation,’ if things didn’t line up exactly the way I wanted,” Alexendra says.

Alexandra and Tommy agree that having a wedding at home would have been much different than their dreamy Cabo celebrations. The big family vacation vibe would have been missing – an important element to the couple.

“By the end of our wedding weekend, friends from different stages of our lives became friends, and our families became one big family,” the couple says.
