Destination I Do has covered real weddings from the start of the upward trend for destination weddings. In our questionnaire, when our couples are asked to give their own advice to future destination brides and grooms, about 90 percent of the time they’ll say something like, “Remember why you are planning and stressing in the first place.”
During this time of uncertainty in the world, I’ve had extra time to be introspective and think about why many couples worry themselves crazy over seemingly small details when planning their destination wedding. (If this is you, you’re not alone. It took me months to decide if Baby’s Breath should be included in the event or not. See what I went with below.)
After reading the first chapter in Priya Parker‘s “The Art of Gathering: Why We Meet and Why it Matters,” my eyes were opened. When it comes to gatherings, at any capacity, the purpose can easily be lost in the logistics.
This, in my opinion, is what makes your vendors invaluable. They desire to take that load off you. They desire to use their creative and logistical talent to deliver your most ideal atmosphere and aesthetic to be able to enjoy your company and celebrate the joining of two in love. Therein lies the beauty of destination weddings, as so many real couples have told us, you get to spend quality time with those you love away from all your obligations in order to marry the one you love.
So, our hope (as wedding industry professionals) is that you would remember your purpose for having a destination wedding in the first place. We want to encourage you to take some time to remember your purpose, so we have provided the below worksheet with ideas from Parker’s book as a guiding light for you when wedding worry and anxiety are getting the best of you. Consider printing out your completed worksheet to include in your wedding planning papers/vision board. Then, grab a glass of bubbly and let’s cheers to finding comfort in our purpose!
