Cape Cod is a dream destination wedding location. Located just an hour’s drive from Boston, it’s a natural fit for couples who hail from the Northeast but also entices visitors from all over the world. The island is surprisingly large, spanning 65 miles with more than 400 miles of shoreline. So how do you make it easy for your guests? Choose a resort in a central location, with lots of options for everything from venues to guest lodging. Which is where Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club comes in.
This charming resort is centrally located in the hamlet of Brewster, on the northern side of the peninsula. You’re 10 miles to Chatham, 20 miles to Wellfleet, and 30 miles to Hyannis or Provincetown. Built-in the early 1900s as the private estate of the Nickerson family (donors of the land for nearby Nickerson State Park), it’s been transformed into a resort that is large acreage-wise but feels small and welcoming despite all it has to offer. The main manor house is home to a cozy drawing room with a fireplace, the more formal Roscommon Room restaurant, and a wood-paneled lower-level pub and restaurant called Bayzos. Come spring, the wide Ocean Terrace opens for cocktails, small plates, and Cape Cod Bay views.
Guests can stay in traditional hotel-style rooms in a wing of the Mansion, or spread out in well-equipped, multi-bedroom villas with kitchens and living areas, available at various price points. They’re more expensive closer to the Mansion, and less expensive in the Villages area along the golf course.
It’s easy to get a taste of small-town life with a visit to a local gallery or the historic Brewster General Store. Day trips to Chatham for shopping or the Cape Cod National Seashore for beaching are natural choices. But guests don’t have to go anywhere if they don’t want to. Everything they need to relax is on-site, from the year-round indoor pool and fitness center to a seasonal outdoor pool, golf on the only Jack Nicklaus course on the Cape, and of course, the beach. But this is no ordinary beach. Ocean Edge is ideally situated on the Brewster Flats, the largest tidal flats in North America. During low tide, the beach more than doubles in size, ideal for beach bonfires, wading out into the bay or even playing a game of low-tide putt-putt golf, arranged by the resort. They’ll also set up croquet on the main lawn if you prefer something more traditional.
For weddings, they have versatile options to suit different styles and budgets. For formal events, the Mansion Ballroom, tucked beneath the Ocean Terrace, fits up to 250 for dining and dancing underneath Art Deco-inspired chandeliers. For something more whimsical, Bay Pines Pavilion is a neat white tent set up beside the outdoor pool, offering nautical chic for up to 220 guests from April through November. For smaller groups, The Carriage House offers charming period rooms with private balconies for up to 120 guests.
Whatever you choose, take advantage of the second story of the Mansion, where former living areas with fireplaces and terraces have been turned into spaces ideal for rehearsal dinners, wedding prep areas, or even micro weddings. Their packages keep things simple, with mix-and-match elements and clear pricing so you can tailor them to your tastes and budget. Hold a New England-style welcome party with clam chowder, steamed lobster, and bourbon-rosemary steak tips, and then go more formal with a plated reception, traditional wedding cake, and take-home whoopie pies for guests. The resort has a list of preferred vendors to help fill out the details, and you are welcome to bring in your own vendors not on the list.
Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club has everything you need for a New England-style destination wedding. Who knew marrying on Cape Cod could be this easy?
