Jekyll Island, one of Georgia’s most idyllic barrier islands, houses a resort steeped not only in the beauty of nature, but in rich American history.

Several sailboats and yachts are docked at a pier on calm water, surrounded by patches of marsh grass, under a clear sky with soft pink and blue hues.Historic beige hotel buildings with three flags in front, a green lawn, white benches, and a few people in the background under a blue sky with clouds.

For couples planning a wedding week, the Jekyll Island Club Resort feels like being in the midst of a story being written. The island itself has a way of making everything feel beautifully cinematic. A carriage rolls past historic cottages, the sound of hooves echoing against the pavement, evoking the overwhelming feeling that you’ve somehow wandered into a scene straight out of spring during the Gilded Age.

Historic Elegance Meets Modern Comfort

Natural light streams in from multiple windows.

The Clubhouse itself anchors the experience. Its iconic turret rises above the oaks, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for memories of all kinds. Inside, the Grand Dining Room glows with chandeliers and thoughtful decor. Outside, lawns stretch toward the water, where guests enjoy sweeping sunset views from the shoreline.

Several bicycles are parked near a pathway by the water at sunset, with a lit lamp post, grass, and distant bridge visible under a pink and blue sky.Outdoor pool area with lounge chairs, umbrellas, and cabanas, surrounded by trees and bushes at sunset under a partly cloudy sky.A wooden porch with a rocking bench, towels draped over the back, a wicker table, and trees with hanging moss in the background.

The resort offers 150 rooms spread across its historic structures. Even with careful renovations over the years, the property has painstakingly preserved the architectural character and atmosphere of its original era. Modern additions seamlessly integrate into the setting, featuring pools framed by live oaks, small shops, bike rentals, lawn croquet, and cozy bars tucked into corners where elegance meets comfort. Wandering the porches and grounds, you can still sense the era when industrial titans flocked to the island for a winter respite.

Planning a wedding week across the grounds of the Jekyll Island Club Resort is a seamless process with endless options. The historic cottages each carry their own distinct tone, ready to host moments that will last long after the final toast.

Historic Wedding Cottages at Jekyll Island Club Resort

Crane Cottage

Sunny, enclosed courtyard with a brick walkway, central fountain, green lawn, white arches, and a two-story Mediterranean-style building in the background. Modern bedroom with a four-poster bed, fireplace, TV, two armchairs, wood floor, and large windows with white shutters letting in natural light. Modern living room with a glass table, fireplace, two brown chairs, white seating, plant, artwork, and open doors leading outside.

Built in 1917 by Richard Teller Crane Jr., Crane Cottage features an Italian Renaissance design that feels straight out of Tuscany, complete with arched windows and a courtyard made for nuptials. As the fountain trickles softly in the background, guests can gather in the sun or beneath strings of lights in this charming courtyard. The surrounding gardens offer ample space for portraits, lingering conversations, or a romantic stroll.

Cherokee Cottage

A large white two-story house with green shutters, a red roof, and arched windows, with white chairs arranged on the lawn in front. A spacious bedroom with a large bed, two wicker chairs, a small table, an armoire, hardwood floors, and a view into a sunroom. Spacious living room with wood paneling, large windows, built-in window seat with pillows, chairs, sofas, plants, and a ceiling fan.

Across the lawn, Cherokee Cottage offers a different kind of intimacy. Its brick facade and shaded patios provide a calm retreat for the bridal party to sip coffee before the ceremony or for family members to share stories that bridge generations. Originally built as a retreat for the Shrady family, it still feels like a private, thoughtful space holding the hum of anticipation before vows are exchanged.

A Historic Off-site Treasure for Wedding Photos

Two people walk their bikes along a gravel path beneath a large tree toward a historic yellow house on a sunny day.

Just down Riverview Drive within the National Historic Landmark District sits Hollybourne Cottage, one of the island’s most intriguing architectural marvels. Designed using the ingenuity of civil engineer Charles Stewart Maurice, the manor boasts a unique structural design incorporating bridge-truss framing. While preserved by the Jekyll Island Authority rather than operated as resort lodging, its striking facade remains a favorite nearby backdrop for wedding portraits that capture the quiet sophistication of the Gilded Age.

A Coastal Haven for Unforgettable Weddings

There are countless ways the resort, grounds, and cottages can become a wedding week haven. When the main festivities wind down, guests can savor quieter moments across the property. Deer mill about the lawns, unbothered by movement, long accustomed to the stillness of the island.

Throughout the week, this corner of Georgia moves at a pace that encourages both grand celebration and peaceful immersion in nature. Guests can wander the grounds, taking in river views, rich history, and the unique energy of the coast. The Jekyll Island Club Resort carries a quiet grandiosity that feels almost poetic.
