Mexico is by no means short on amazing properties for weddings and honeymoons. From Cancun to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta to Acapulco – couples can find just about anything to fit their needs and budget.

We’re always trying to uncover the most beautiful, interesting, adventurous and off-the-beaten-path properties out there, and after being invited to Imanta Resort, we found a place which matches all those characteristics to a tee.

Nestled in the verdant jungle of Punta de Mita and overlooking Banderas Bay, Imanta Resort feels as if it has been there for centuries. From the water, it looks like an abandoned Mayan civilization built into the mountainside, but meticulously preserved and turned into a luxury villa property.

With a total of 12 villas, each one is completely custom and offers different luxuries. My husband and I stayed in two villas in the three days we visited. The first offered panoramic views of Banderas Bay with oversized windows, white walls contrasting with the luxurious dark hardwoods of the bed, furniture and light-blocking shutters. The room was enormous with ceilings stretching 20 feet in the air, an outdoor shower, soaking tub and plunge pool. It was steps away from the restaurant which served breakfast, evening cocktails on their rooftop terrace and dinner each night. Our villa was even closer to the concierge who would point us in the right direction of hiking trails, sunscreen or whatever we needed at that moment.

Our next room was ocean-front with the waves crashing below our expansive sun deck complete with day bed, private plunge pool, private outdoor shower and a Jacuzzi tub which had a bay window that completely opened up to overlook our negative-edge pool and the ocean.

We took a property tour and noted the many magnificent views from the grounds and the multiple bedroom “casonas” which would be ideal for traveling families coming for a destination wedding. With sun decks, chefs kitchens and private swimming pools, an intimate destination wedding take-over here would be like a tropical fairytale. Imanta has hosted several weddings in the past and they take great care in the details, creating a special experience for each and every couple.

When it comes to romance, Imanta has it figured out. While we were there, my husband and I celebrated our seven-year anniversary. I had mentioned this in passing and as we headed to dinner our last night there, the concierge escorted us to another part of the restaurant, opened two double doors and inside was a candle-lit dinner for two in a private room overlooking the ocean, with flower petals leading the way. The food the chef prepared was out of this world and unexpected. After dinner, we headed back to our villa only to find a candle-lit path of flower petals leading to a bubble bath and two glasses of Champagne. Every detail was a delightful surprise and seamlessly executed by the staff.

If you’re considering a destination wedding or ideal honeymoon location, I can, without reservation, recommend the Imanta Resort. A three day visit made me fall in love with Mexico (and my handsome husband of seven years) all over again.
