Couples are flocking to places that offer a “one-with-nature” experience for their destination weddings. With the rise in popularity of TV shows like Yellowstone showcasing the sprawling beauty and rustic backdrops, it is no wonder destinations like Big Sky, Montana are having a much-deserved moment. Montage Big Sky resort, located in the stunning Spanish Peaks of Montana, offers an ideal setting for destination weddings throughout the year. The five-star luxury resort is known for its diverse range of amenities, beautiful natural surroundings, and excellent service, making it a perfect choice for couples seeking an unforgettable wedding experience in the Mountain West.

A spacious living room with large windows offering a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains. The room features wooden beams, modern furniture including sofas, armchairs, a coffee table, a chandelier, and a fireplace, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Romancing the West

It opened in 2021, and in that short time has become the go-to for couples looking to host their most special day. From proposals under the stars to full-blown weekend-long weddings, Montage Big Sky exudes romance. The resort’s common areas are filled with the largest art collection of all the Montage properties featuring 24 different local and global artists. Just walking through over 500,000 square feet of art-laden walls and corners would keep you busy from check-in to check-out.

No matter if you’re cozied up by a fire, roasting s’mores or canoodling in a corner over a glass of wine, every area of this property feels romantic and decadent.

Gorgeous Accommodations

Floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the alpine oasis that lies beyond the threshold, but indulgences such as heated floors and effortlessly luxurious décor of the 139 guest accommodations beg you to linger a little longer. Moody colors and warm woods grace the space, with natural light filling every room. Choose from rooms, suites, or residences (perfect for destination wedding groups) all within the resort’s footprint.

We were lucky enough to tour the Spanish Peaks Suite which comes complete with a full dining room, kitchenette, great room with fireplace, balcony, two bathrooms, and king bedroom. Connecting to a queen room, it provides even more flexibility for wedding parties and could serve as the ultimate home base or the location for a morning-after brunch for a small group.

Endless Year-Round Activities

There is no shortage of things to do in and around Big Sky. A visit to Yellowstone National Park is a must. Only 45 minutes away to the west entrance and you and your guests can get an up close and personal tour led by your own private naturalist. Enjoy national treasures such as Grand Prismatic or Old Faithful. You can also explore the Southern side of Yellowstone known for its abundant wildlife and rugged terrain.

Three people dressed in plaid shirts and cowboy hats ride horses on a dirt path overlooking a scenic mountain landscape with lush greenery and trees. The sky is clear, and the group appears to be enjoying the view ahead.

On property, you and your guests can enjoy activities, catering to a wide range of interests. Axe throwing and archery are popular pastimes, providing fun and challenging experiences for guests of all skill levels. The resort also offers horseback riding adventures, allowing visitors to explore the beautiful Montana landscape on guided tours. For those who enjoy hiking, a trek to Ousel Falls is a must. This scenic hike features a picturesque waterfall and lush surroundings, offering a peaceful escape into nature. But other exciting options such as ATV tours, helicopter tours and dog sledding in the winter are available as well.

A person in a purple jacket walks along a dirt path winding through a lush, green landscape with rolling hills, wildflowers, and dense forests under a cloudy blue sky. Snow-capped mountains are visible in the distance.

One of the resort’s most unique offerings is the Lone Peak Expedition. This adventure, provided by Big Sky Resort, takes guests to the summit of Lone Peak, providing unparalleled views of the surrounding area. The journey includes a scenic chairlift ride, followed by an exhilarating off-road vehicle ascent to the base and a tram ride to the top, a soaring 11,166 feet above sea level. With clear skies, expect to see across three states, two national parks and different mountain ranges.

In the wintertime, Montage Big Sky feels like a snow globe and boasts ski-in ski-out access. Along with its own on-site ski concierge at Compass Sports, you’ll get to skip the bottleneck of rental shops and the typical frenzied pace of getting to the slopes.

A group of hikers walks along a dirt trail on a lush green hillside surrounded by dense pine trees under a cloudy sky. In the distance, a peak covered in greenery can be seen. The path is rocky and the scene is tranquil and scenic.

Winding down (or up) after a day of fun, hop into a temperature-controlled outdoor pool (85 degrees all year) or hot tub. In the summer months, poolside treats are as abundant as the sunshine.

A Focus on Wellness & Relaxation

Complimentary on-site group activities such as fitness classes and yoga happen most days. In the summer, yoga happens outside on their Mountain Lawn and other group classes in their studio. Peloton bikes grace the fitness center accompanied by state-of-the-art equipment.

On the other side, there are multiple white lounge chairs with pillows, arranged under soft, warm lighting. A minimalist spa room features two massage tables, each with white linens and gray blankets. A modern bathtub stands near wooden paneled windows. A small stone side table holds rolled towels beside a vase with flowers, enhancing the serene ambiance.

One major standout is Spa Montage Big Sky. Relax by the indoor pool as you soak in the peaceful details in every corner. The rustic mountain ambiance is softened by the dim lighting and rejuvenating scents lingering in the air. Our recommendation: the sound healing massage which combines therapeutic massage techniques with soothing sounds to promote deep relaxation and well-being. This treatment is an excellent way for couples and their guests to decompress and enjoy a moment of tranquility amidst their busy wedding celebrations.

A modern, well-lit salon features wide windows, wooden floors, and minimalist decor with neutral tones. The room has three salon chairs, desk with chairs, a tall potted plant, wall art, bookshelves, and a large mirror. Some greenery is placed on the desks and shelves.

Stunning Mountain Wedding Venue Options

Not all ballrooms are created equal and this is particularly true for Montage Big Sky. The Grand Ballroom is their largest indoor venue, but you almost have to look twice to ensure you’re actually inside. Featuring a soaring a-frame tongue and groove ceiling and walls of windows flanking one entire side of the room, the natural light pours in. With over 5,000 square feet, the space can accommodate 250 people and opens up to the Grand Terrace for an even more streamlined experience. For a fully outdoor celebration, the Grand Lawn offers unobstructed views of the Spanish Peaks and can accommodate up to 300 people. Or the Mountain Lawn offers a tucked-away option at the base of the mountain for groups of up to 150. Between the elegant décor, ample space for both ceremonies and receptions and the resort’s neutral color palette any of their spaces offer a versatile choice for any wedding style.

In addition to these venues, Montage Big Sky’s expert wedding team knows a thing or two about weddings, ensuring that every detail is taken care of. They will work closely with couples and their planners to create a personalized and seamless wedding experience, from the initial planning stages to the final farewell.

Unreal Restaurants & Places to Party

One of the standout features of Montage Big Sky is its exceptional food and beverage. The resort is home to five bars and restaurants, each offering unique culinary experiences. Cortina, the resort’s signature restaurant, specializes in Italian cuisine, with dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. Alpenglow, another dining venue, offers casual fare and craft cocktails with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal. Additionally, the Wildflower Market offers gourmet grab-and-go options, ideal for quick bites or picnic provisions.

Brightly colored bowling balls sit in racks on both sides near the lanes. The walls are a mix of exposed brick and wood paneling, with large windows on the right side.A burger with lettuce, tomato, and bacon on a wooden board sits next to a metal container of fries. A glass boot mug filled with beer is on the right. The background features shelves with colorful billiard balls.

One of our favorite spaces was Beartooth Pub & Rec. The food was incredible with mouth-watering wood-fired pizzas, locally sourced salads and traditional pub fare, combined with craft beer and cocktails. What really makes this place stand out wasn’t even the food. Alongside the restaurant is a bowling alley and arcade, perfect for late-night revelry and camaraderie.

For your wedding adjacent events, Montage Big Sky can provide just about anything you can dream up. From sparking up some healthy competition at Rivalry (a private venue complete with golf simulators, big screen TVs and a full bar) to splashing in the sun with reserved private pool cabanas, anything from a groomsman’s day of fun to a relaxing group salon experience can be accomplished.

It is a truly special blend of luxurious wedding venues, accommodations, diverse dining options, and an array of activities in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Paired with their expert wedding team who genuinely cares about the success of your Big Sky event, you’re bound to experience the mountain wedding of your dreams.
