“Ni sa bula” – Welcome to Fiji.

From the moment I heard the sweet harmonies of the native greeters singing their welcome song, I fell in love with Fiji and its people who are some of the friendliest, warm and joyful people I have ever had the privilege to meet.  Add an average temperature in the mid-80s, alabaster sands, crystal blue ocean with pristine coral reefs, amazing feasts, an endless array of activities and truly superb places to snuggle in at night, Fiji is a honeymoon hideaway which nourishes the soul and delights the senses.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort

Located only 16 miles from the Nadi airport, Likuliku Lagoon Resort is truly a rare gem. Great care has been taken to provide visitors with an authentic Fijian experience from traditional architecture to the friendliness and playful spirit of the staff — who never miss the opportunity to flash a warm smile, wave and shout “Bula!”

In addition to 32 spacious and beautifully appointed beachfront accommodations, Likuliku is the first resort to include overwater bures. How fun to be able to climb down a few steps from your private over-water deck to snorkel in the clear waters of the lagoon or enjoy an ocean view from your oversized, decadent tub. But, no matter how much you are enjoying the creature comforts of your room, at some point you must venture out and enjoy what this island paradise has to offer.

Executive Chef Ihaka Peri, is responsible for Likuliku’s outstanding location-inspired cuisine. Throughout their stay, guests enjoy most of their meals at Fijiana, the resort’s signature restaurant, and the chef takes great pride in creating new culinary delights highlighting the exquisite flavors of the Pacific Rim.

Once rested and fed we encourage you to venture over to the activities center where you will discover a multitude
of experiences including wind surfing, kayaking, sailing, game fishing, diving, snorkeling or visiting a nearby Fijian village.

No honeymoon is complete without a couples massage and the Tatadra Spa won’t disappoint. The spa kicks it up a notch with the ability to reserve the facility for an intimate evening of pampering…all to yourselves!

Royal Davui

Next on our treasure hunt of Fijian honeymoon locations is the Royal Davui, an intimate, adults-only private island where you can enjoy the privacy and elegance of one of 16 vales set within ten acres of lush tropical landscape. Each richly appointed and private vale has its own plunge pool and enjoys unobstructed views of Bega Lagoon. The meeting place for guests and the heart of activities is under the impressive Banyan tree which ascends through the main restaurant and bar where you can enjoy locally inspired meals and drinks, including Kava, the traditional Fijian libation.

Island catamarans, paddle boats and sea kayaks are the perfect way to explore the rich underwater world which surrounds the coral gardens around the island. For those who are so inclined, some of the best diving locations are within a short distance. Undoubtedly one of the most romantic and popular activities offered by the Royal Davui is the Sand Quay Picnic where a short, seven-minute boat ride takes you to a tidal islet which appears for a few short hours at low tide. Reserved for only one couple at a time, the experience of finding yourself in the middle of the clear blue lagoon with your new spouse, soaking up the sun, digging your toes into the powdery white sand and enjoying delicious food is truly unique and not to miss.

Laucala Island

“On Laucala your soul collects magic moments like sea shells,” and a week is clearly not long enough to experience all this 12 square-mile island paradise has to offer. I guarantee within minutes of settling into your luxurious private villa, you will be contemplating how to stay forever. There are 25 private residences situated either beachfront or positioned for astonishingly beautiful views, surrounded by lush, manicured tropical landscape for ultimate privacy. Each villa comes with its own golf cart which enables you to venture out and explore.

On your first day you are encouraged to enlist the time of the Laucala Concierge for an island tour to discover the chef’s herb garden and hydroponics, marina, orchid nursery, farm and 18-hole golf course. Then, just to get you a bit more complimentary, you are invited to visit the spa for your 90-minute complimentary massage. (Pinch Me!)

Executive Chef Martin Klein is responsible for the extraordinary cuisine found on the island. Since coming to Laucala from Salzburg, Austria, Chef Martin has made great strides in the ability to source the ingredients for his locally inspired dishes from the gardens and farm on the island, personally ensuring the quality and freshness. The Seagrass Restaurant and Lounge, with its breathtaking ocean views and seaside teppanyaki grill set into a cliff, provides the setting for more culinary delight under the direction of Thai Chef Khun Santi.

The natural setting on and around Laucala Island provide for new experiences every day – from galloping along the beach on a horse, sailing on the resort’s luxury “Rere Ahi,” to diving along the world-renowned “White Wall” coral reef — all within steps of your villa.

Fiji is truly a romantic destination which rivals few places on Earth and these romantic honeymoon destinations are definitely worth your attention. “Isa Lei” Farewell, Fiji.

How to get there: Fly from the West Coast of the U.S. on Air Pacific.
