Intimate, historic and bathed in a shimmering apricot light, the cobbled mountain town of San Miguel de Allende is one of the most romantic spots in Mexico for a destination wedding or honeymoon. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, most of the town’s gorgeous 17th and 18th century churches and buildings have been preserved, including the cluster of colonial “casas” that make up the luxurious Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada hotel. Conveniently located in the heart of the city, this enchanting property has a range of wedding venues, some of which can accommodate up to 300 guests in a semi-covered courtyard surrounded by trees and flowers.

All rooms and suites at the hotel have been exquisitely appointed with local antiques, fine linens and art. Some rooms have copper tubs and stone fireplaces, while the Presidential Suite has its own plunge pool. There is a small outdoor pool in a garden area for all guests.

A sweet spot to savor a flute of bubbly is The Blue Bar adjacent to the hotel’s excellent restaurant, Andanza. With covered alfresco seating, it offers modern and traditional Mexican breakfast, lunch and dinner fare, with such offerings as chicken with homemade mole and rib-eye with chimichurri sauce. You can learn to make these recipes and much more at the hotel’s cooking school, Sazón, located next to San Miguel de Allende’s colorful, covered food market.

The hotel also has the Laja Spa, a pampering oasis where you can enjoy a wide range of massages and body treatments. Some unique therapies to consider are the Healing Herbal Therapy, employing essential oils and medicinal herbs, or the stimulating Cocoa and Chile Wrap.

Should you wish to explore the area, Belmond Casa de Sierra Nevada can arrange for a private historic walking tour of the town. They can organize a hot air balloon ride over the city, a day of horseback riding, golf or a visit to the nearby town of Guanajuato, the birthplace of Mexico’s independence and artist Diego Rivera. Of course, it’s easy to never venture out of San Miguel de Allende and spend your time strolling the tiny streets visiting galleries, shopping and gathering memories for your new life together.
