6 Tips For Wedding Dress Shopping

1. Come with an open and positive mindset.

More times than not, our brides “say yes” to a gown completely different than anything they ever expected or saved on Pinterest. Having an open mindset to different shapes and styles allows our brides to fall in love with a design they may never have picked off the rack for themselves, and trust that it will be a fun and memorable experience.

2. Nude undergarments make trying on gowns easier.

One of the number one questions we get asked is what to bring/wear to a bridal appointment. We like to recommend nude undergarments. As they work with almost every gown. As far as a bra goes, feel free to go braless, wear sticky boobs, or pasties. Whatever you feel most comfortable in.

3. Limit the party size.

There’s no doubt that “Say Yes to the Dress” is entertaining, however, it makes many brides feel like they need to bring an entire squad dress shopping. You want your best three opinions with you. Those that love and adore you and want you to feel and look your very best on your wedding day and willing to guide but not push your decision.

4. Have your consultant take consistent pictures.

Think of your stylist as your fairy godmother – we are here to make your experience as seamless as possible – that includes taking photos for you in the gowns you try on. It’s nearly impossible to compare gowns in photos if they are not taken from consistent angles. Let mom or your MOH take a load off and sip some bubbly while we do the work.

5. Trust your stylist.

Every salon is different so no experience will be the same. If you’re looking for intimacy, a smaller selection, and a staff that caters to you, a smaller boutique may be just your style. At Ladies of Lineage, we greet with champagne and brides work with one stylist. That stylist gets to know you, understands the look, feel, and vibe you are going for on your wedding day. She/He hand-selects each gown for you and pulls accessories unique to your personality and wedding day vision. What’s important is to know the experience you are looking for. If you just want to shop without the opinion of a stylist or others, perhaps a larger showroom is more your style. This will allow you to pull styles you think will look good on your body and try on as many dresses as your heart desires. There’s no right or wrong way to shop, it depends on the experience you wish to have.

6. Remember your wedding day look is more than the dress.

A wedding day look can only be complete when you fully accessorize. Many of our brides choose to wear mom/grandmother’s veils or earrings. If there are items you plan to wear on your wedding day, bring them to the appointment so we can incorporate them with your dress.
