Congratulations on your impending nuptials! You’ve worked so hard to make sure that your special day away from home is perfect. Now, it’s time to focus on looking and feeling your best every hour of the day. Find helpful tips on how to look and feel great before, during, and after your wedding day from the experts below!
Be prepared.
“Looking your best comes down to how you prepare for the big day! Don’t let nerves or stress get the best of you. Starting well before the big day, make sure you are prioritizing your health and wellness. Get at least seven hours of sleep (particularly the weeks leading into the wedding – melatonin can help!) Stay active – go for regular walks/jogs. This helps keep your immune system strong while lowering stress. And drinks loads of water! Your skin, hair and nails will thank you.” – Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design
Create a happy space while getting ready.
“Create a playlist of all your happiest songs for the wedding morning to cultivate your best mood ever!” – Natalie Good, Creative Director, A Good Affair
Stay hydrated.
“In order to look and feel your best throughout your entire wedding day, you must keep hydrated! You’re absolutely still allowed to have a few morning mimosas or cocktails throughout the night, but if you want to keep that “glow” and have a clear head for the rest of your wedding weekend then drink lots of water!” – Casey Stamouli, Owner & Lead Planner, Casey & Co. Events
Have a good planning team.
“Have a top-notch planning team in place so you know they are handling every detail and you can really be present throughout the day and not focused on any stress.” – Natalie Good, Creative Director, A Good Affair
Stick to your routine.
“Don’t try any new beauty routines right before the wedding. You don’t want to risk a rash, outbreak or bad haircut on the big day. If you intend to try a new haircut or new skin routine, make these changes a year out from your wedding to give yourself sufficient time to experiment with these changes.” – Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design
Hire a stylist.
“One of my favorite additions to a wedding day is to hire a stylist who will make sure you feel confident, stylish and HOT! Although it’s an added expense, I believe having a stylist working with you on your full look from the earrings to hairstyle to bowtie will make you and your partner feel like a superstar.” – Melanie Levin, Owner of LuckEleven Events
Reduce stress.
“Start your day with peace and calm. Create a morning for yourself that feels zen and allows you to focus on all of the fun and excitement ahead while relieving stress. Carve out time on the morning of your wedding for yoga, a light run or a quick swim to clear your head before you begin styling. This will put you in the perfect mindset for all of the joy of the day.” – Mandy Connor, Owner, Hummingbird Events & Design
Have something to catch the tears.
“A handkerchief held around your bouquet is a stylish way to ensure you catch those tears before they ruin your makeup during the ceremony.” – Philip Casey, Philip Casey Photography
Consider an outfit change.
“There’s nothing better than a second dress or outfit on your wedding day that is completely different! It’s a great surprise for all your guests when you show up on the dance floor in something fun and flirty. It’s also refreshing to change into something lighter, especially for a summer wedding in the heat!” – Rachel Red Photography
Keep your hair/makeup team on-site throughout the day.
“One of my favorite services to inquire about when vetting a Hair/Makeup Team is touch-ups! Some beauty vendors offer the option to have a member of their team remain onsite for additional time throughout the event to keep the bride/groom (or both!) looking their best all night long.” – Alexandra Denniston, Owner & Lead Planner, Eventlightenment Planning
Have an emergency kit handy.
“If keeping your hair and makeup team on site isn’t in your budget, ask your team to create a touch-up kit that you can use to refresh your look when needed. Additionally, a wedding ‘emergency kit’ can come in handy if you include essentials like deodorant, mints, face blotters and setting spray. Pro-tip: assign someone in your wedding party or a close friend to perform a ‘make-up check’ for you to ensure you’re in tip-top shape all day long. Make sure you consider the weather – if it’s warm, you can carry a handheld fan to ensure you stay fresh during crucial moments or include a cute bolero to pair with your wedding gown if the temps are cooler.” – HoneyFitz Events
Enjoy the little moments.
“From the moment you wake up, until the last song in the wedding. It will feel like five minutes when the wedding is over. You need to enjoy every single second of it. Don’t let the little things stress you out. Believe that everything happens for a reason and go with the flow.” – Lujen Daloub, Royal Lily Boutique
Find alone time with your partner.
“If you are like many couples I’ve worked with over the years, it’s important to find alone time with your partner on the wedding day to calm any feelings of anxiety and nerves. Five minutes alone with your person can change everything, so put it in the timeline and use that time to talk about everything you can’t say in front of a crowd. It’s a game changer!” – Rachel Red Photography
Pick a vendor dream team.
“Looking and feeling great on your wedding day starts with waking up on the day of your wedding feeling comfortable and confident with the vendor team you hired. If you trust and vibe with your vendors, you are guaranteed that the partnership you built with them during your planning will leave you stress-free – looking and feeling your very best from the minute you get up to your final farewells because no makeup can cover up a stressed-out day!” – Elizabeth Lutz, Elizabeth Lutz Boutique Design & Event Planning
