Set at the storied Gadsden House in Charleston, South Carolina, this styled wedding shoot, captured by Annalee of Photos by Annalee, honors the aesthetics of its charming southern setting with bright colors, maximalist florals and natural textures. Whether you’re seeking a muse for your own wedding’s color palette or simply need an example for how to enliven a neutral backdrop in general, this playful Charleston wedding inspiration at historic Gadsden House is sure to leave you inspired!

Created for the Hybrid Co Photography Conference, this editorial shoot was the brainchild of host Taylor Jordan Photography and planner Elizabeth Elkins Events, two creatives who approached every detail with equal parts intention and artistry. “We set out to capture the feeling of a truly elevated, luxury wedding,” says Elkins, “something fashion-forward with a sense of playfulness woven throughout.”

Gadsden House delivered exactly the kind of canvas they were looking for. “An outdoor setting with plenty of room gave us the flexibility to create and move naturally throughout the shoot,” the planner explains.

Pink, Green, and Everything In Between

The color story began with simply with pink and green stationery by Colby Bedell Creative and pink details by Olive and Oak. However, the palette quickly blossomed into something far more layered.

“Once we found the linen, everything fell into place,” says Elkins. Drawing heavily from the worlds of fashion and interior design, with nods to the bold, pattern-driven aesthetic of Emilio Pucci, the team designed a tastefully maximalist tablescape. Bamboo flatware, statement lamps, and florals that spilled across the table in color-blocked clusters came together to create a look that felt both globally inspired and distinctly Charleston.

Rather than relying on traditional centerpieces, the floral direction by Bearded Florist leaned heavily on architectural arrangements, cascading across the tables and anchored with a central installation at the reception’s heart. “Every single seat offered a completely different sculptural perspective,” notes photographer Annalee. “I wanted the images to reflect not just the overall impact, but the individuality of each view within the space.”

The Bar as the Beating Heart

One of the shoot’s most covetable elements, custom-built by K&J Lit Rentals, was a bar with a distinctive silhouette and a matching DJ booth. “Statement bars are really having their moment,” says Elkins, “and we wanted to capitalize on that with a unique shape and a space that encouraged live interaction.”

Shooting in Hybrid: Film Meets Digital

For Durland-Jones, capturing the shoot’s vibrant palette required a thoughtful balance of mediums. Working in a hybrid film and digital style, she began shooting about two hours before sunset, navigating the contrast of direct afternoon light before transitioning into the warm, glowy golden hour that made portraits truly sing. “Film brought a creamy, almost ethereal quality that enhanced the palette,” she says, “while digital gave me the crispness and flexibility I needed as the light shifted.”

Bringing It Home for Charleston

For all its fashion-world references and globally sourced blooms (including rare flowers from Japan), this shoot never lost sight of its Southern surroundings. Lush florals, layered textures, and a spirit of joyful abundance made it feel entirely at home in one of the South’s most beloved wedding cities. For couples dreaming of a similar look, Elkins’ advice is straightforward: “Hire a full-service planner along with a photographer who collaborates closely on the design. When they’re in sync, the design not only comes together beautifully in person but also translates perfectly in photos.”

Consider this your sign to think bigger, bolder, and a little more “Pucci!”
