Designed by Broderie Anglaise Events and photographed at the elegant Golf Privé Glyfada in Athens, this editorial channels the essence of a deeply personal celebration. Every detail, every shell, shimmer, and symbolic flourish, was chosen with intention, reflecting the couple’s shared activism, cultural heritage, and vision for a chic, contemporary wedding.

A Moodboard… but Make It Live

The planner explains that the idea began with the brides’ particular request. “Creating a modern wedding is all about blending inclusivity, charm, a touch of mother-of-pearl allure, and a hint of playful romance,” she says. “It goes beyond just being trendy; it’s about crafting a highly personalized experience that aligns with the couple’s vision for their dream celebration.”

Because the brides wished to keep their vows private, the planning team sought another way to visually communicate the emotion and ambiance the couple hoped to evoke. The solution? A full-scale, live moodboard photoshoot.

“We were inspired to create a live moodboard,” the planner shares. “This would give them a vivid sense of the ambiance their celebration would embody.”

The result is a wedding inspiration shoot infused with narrative depth, a reflection of two women committed not only to one another but to a life of justice, advocacy, and courage.

A Ceremony Installation with Heart

The ceremony’s focal point was an artistic masterpiece. Crafted by the paper-quilling experts at Hartiko, the arch is a spiraling sculpture of rolled and coiled paper, symbolic of unity and the patience required for long-lasting love.

“This construction represents unity,” notes the planner, “as the art of quilling involves rolling, shaping, and coiling paper to create a cohesive work of art.”

It’s a sculptural metaphor for partnership: intricate, intentional, and layered.

Cocktails with Symbolic Flavor

The cocktail hour features one of the shoot’s most poignant motifs: oysters.

“The nautilus shell symbolizes order amid chaos with its spiral precision,” says the planner. Representing growth and renewal, it served as the guiding visual for this portion of the design.

Hand-painted Murex, Lampis, and Trugata shells doubled as salt plates and place cards, mini sculptural reminders “that life’s journey demands resilience in safeguarding one’s identity and beliefs.”

Rather than traditional escort cards, each guest would receive a natural Capiz shell, adorned with delicate calligraphy. Invitations crafted from pearly Kabibi shells and menus die-cut to resemble oysters completed the tactile, oceanic storytelling.

Fashion Rooted in Heritage

Because one of the brides, Sophia, has Greek roots and planned to wear Ayrin Bridal for her real wedding, the team collaborated with the designer for the shoot.

“We reached out…for two dresses,” the planner says. One gown reflects Anna’s ethereal romanticism; the other channels Sophia’s minimalist sensibility, complemented by a pearl-beaded cape inspired by her actual wedding look. Accessories from Katerina Savrani and jewelry by Athenee added sculptural elegance.

Hair and makeup by Vassia Papakonstantinou created soft, luminous beauty that echoed the shoot’s mother-of-pearl palette.

Reception: Monochromatic Drama

Inside the ballroom, the aesthetic shifts from seaside whimsy to modern opulence. White garden roses, white corals, and white candles set the monochromatic tone. Gold-rimmed plates, umber glassware, and translucent textures from Verona Events strike the perfect balance of softness and glam.

The effect is serene yet statement-making, exactly what the brides envisioned.

Aegean-Inspired Guest Gifting

The gift selection is especially rich with personal symbolism.

Guests would receive:

  • Aegean sea salt from Sophia’s birthplace
  • Cretan Raki (her father’s village moonshine)
  • Hand-embroidered linen napkins (a nod to traditional Greek wedding entrances)
  • Custom pastille boxes filled with candied almonds
  • All arranged in raffia baskets from a Cretan artisan cooperative

Every item speaks to heritage, storytelling, and the desire to create an experience that feels intimate rather than performative.

From Concept to Reality

Perhaps the biggest endorsement of the vision? The brides used the shoot as-is.

“When we shared the live moodboard with our brides, their excitement was palpable,” the planner says. Their wedding took place several months later, and “we can confidently share they made absolutely no change to the entire scheme.”

A styled shoot that becomes a wedding plan, straight down to the last detail? That’s the magic of thoughtful, narrative-driven design for you!
