When Barbara, founder of Amuri Events & Wedding Planner, submitted this styled shoot, she presented it as inspiration for couples wanting to wed in Italy in an uncommon way. We were immediately intrigued. Set on an abandoned railway in the South-West of the Mediterranean’s largest island, this shoot celebrates Sicilian culture while also transporting the viewer to a wilder side of Italy. Read our interview with Barbara below for insight into the design concept of the day:

Q: What was the inspiration for the theme/style of the shoot? How did the location of the shoot influence it?
A: “The inspiration followed Amuri’s motto: “Less is more.” Referring to the strong growing need for freedom, celebrating in the open air, and re-establishing contact with Mother Earth–the idea was to realize a wild and intimate elopement.

The day included romantic moments, an intimate brunch with a table for two submerged in nature, some good Sicilian folk music, and two pieces of luggage. The shoot took place at the Natural Reserve of the Belice River (Selinunte), a wild location that, in some ways, reminds one of the African wilderness. This is a place with a range of settings: sea, river, beautiful olive trees, and abandoned buildings.”

Q: What was your favorite part of the shoot and why?
A: “The reception [was my favorite part] because I love the orange, mustard, and earth tones–which reflect nature and its warm embrace. The symbolism of the railway relates to the character of the couple and their need to be free and reconnect to nature (especially after two years of the pandemic.)”
