Imagine feeling the gentle warmth of sun on your skin, the scent of lavender envelopes you, a soft breeze floats past, and the intoxicating song of the cicadas resonates in your ears. You are in the south of France, and you’re about to say “I do” on the grounds of a luxurious, storied château. This is the picture a talented team of French vendors aimed to paint for couples considering a destination wedding in the south of France. We interviewed the shoot’s photographers, Pierre & Julia, to get an inside look at this lovely day!

How did this styled shoot come about?

Christophe Serrano invited us to join him for his wedding workshop in Provence. He wanted to create a high-end experience and shoot for fine art photographers in France. He planned three styled shoots, and this one took place in a typical castle in Provence, in the countryside. His vision was to create a mix of classical and modern elements and incorporate design and fashion into a conventional event.

How did the destination/location of the shoot influence the style/theme?

The destination was an old castle in the middle of vineyard fields. This kind of place used to be owned by wealthy families, which led Christophe, his assistants and designers to employ all things high-end: a classical brown Rolls Royce, black tux and a fashion styled gown made out of light and flowing fabric (temperature rose above 105°F that day).

Tell us about the reception look. What elements were included and why?

A sweetheart table was placed in one of the lounges of this 17th-century building. Christophe and his team chose white as the main color to match the fine art but used transparent plastic chairs and refined china to get an elegant look. The table was adorned with sumptuous floral works of art designed by Laetitia Ricci. These creations were made in neutral tones for a refined aesthetic.

What was your favorite part of the shoot and why?

We took pleasure in discovering Provence Castle, the place is pretty unique but the lounge where we shot the cake was unbelievable. Its paints were original, which means they are more than 350 years old and embellished by a stone staircase and a crystal and steel chandelier. Shooting inside was a pleasure because of the temperature outside, but we also enjoyed the dark green marble on the walls and the ancient floor tiles.
