With a background in designing evening gowns and embellishments, Katherine Tash found her way to the world of weddings quite naturally. After working for many luxury brands in Los Angeles, Katherine established her bridal wear line in 2018. We were lucky enough to lean on her expertise for a topic all too often overlooked: wedding dress storage.

A wedding dress is one of the most expensive items a bride will invest in her life. In fact, many brides want to keep their gowns in peak condition to keep as a family heirloom for their children or even grandchildren. (We love a good vintage gown!) With this in mind, here are Katherine’s suggestions for the do’s and don’ts of wedding dress storage:

Keep your gown in a dark, dry and cool space.

Light and moisture will destroy white silk fabrics over time, causing them to yellow and discolor.

Have your gown professionally stored by a tailor or dry cleaner.

Usually, the boutique you bought your gown from will have a trusted dry cleaner to recommend.

Storing the veil with the wedding gown is fine, but they should not touch.

The plastic or wire on the headpiece or veil could damage the gown. This goes for shoes too.

About the brand: Katherine Tash gowns are all designed with this philosophy in mind. Sourcing the finest fabrics and materials, each Katherine Tash wedding gown is meticulously handcrafted sustainably in Los Angeles, California by a talented team of local artisans. Romantic embroideries, ethereal fabrics, and effortless silhouettes create a collection that embodies the modern woman of today. Down to the most intricate details, we are dedicated to creating exquisite, made-to-order gowns, for a timeless look on your wedding day.
