On the tip of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, extraordinary cotton candy pink lakes stretch out over thousands of acres. Jayde and Hugo planned to have their wedding at this dazzling spot, called Las Coloradas, dreaming that their special day would be filled with color. However, when COVID-19 hit, they decided it was best to exchange their vows in the sunny village of Sayulita, Mexico. With Las Coloradas as their inspiration, the couple knew they could bring all the color and vibrancy of the lakes to the town and have a wedding as radiant and bright as they had originally imagined.

“We were lucky enough to have a local venue, Casa De La Bellena. The interior is done in almost the exact same shade of pink as the lakes, so it was the perfect location to create the feel we wanted,” the couple says.

Jayde and Hugo were certain an 80’s theme would fit perfectly with their vision of a bright, festive wedding, and they enlisted the help of their friends to make this happen.

“Some of our best friends are wedding professionals in Sayulita. We handed the planning totally over to them, they designed it all and made all the decisions! It was perfect,” the couple says.

Courtney Bialy, owner of Sunset Soiree, and Carmen McKnight, owner of Flora Amor, worked together to create a playful, funky vibe with geometric decor, tropical plants, and fun pops of color. They even built and designed the multicolored altar that would serve as the backdrop for the big moment the couple said “I do.”

Jayde added in her own touches as well. “Bright vibrant colors are totally our style, so I was able to use my own colorful plates for the table which fit perfectly in the color theme of the decor,” the bride says.

She began her wedding day doing a relaxing yoga session with her bridesmaids at the luxury boutique hotel where the ceremony was set to happen, while the groom lounged at the hotel’s pool.

After a calm morning, the couple began getting ready. Jenn Chivers curled Jayde’s hair in classic 80’s fashion and did her makeup the bride’s favorite color: pink, of course!

Jayde wore a soft pink dress and beautifully bold accessories and even donned a kaleidoscopic crown during dinner that was reminiscent of a stained glass sculpture. Hugo wore pastel blue with bright pink vans and slipped on a purple bow tie for his dinner look.

While the bride and groom sported these exuberant outfits, the guests were asked to wear all white—a fun twist on a traditional ceremony!

A small group of friends attended their wedding, which was wonderfully documented by Beth from Dekker Photography.

With close friends, stunning colors, and an abundance of love and laughter, the big day could not have gone better.

For other couples planning to get married, Jayde and Hugo offer a word of advice. “Have fun, make sure the wedding showcases your personality, and trust your vendors.”
