“I can easily say, the moment I met him, I knew I had to have him,” Breanna says about her now husband, Oscar. After meeting through mutual friends, the two began dating and found a mutual love in experiencing different cultures across the world, side by side. Their wedding day had to honor that love, so the rich culture of Costa Rica beckoned Breanna and Oscar to an intimate oceanside wedding in Playa Langosta

In addition to the rich culture and natural wonders, it tremendously helped their guests coming from Puerto Rico, where most of Oscar’s family resides. However, the couple had never visited Costa Rica before. That’s where their planners with Mil Besos entered the picture.

“Interviewing, getting multiple quotes, and leaning on our wedding planner was how it all came together,” the bride tells us.

Unfortunately, the first snag the couple hit in the planning process came with the venue selection. Breanna’s first choice cancelled on her, but Mil Besos quickly swooped in to find an alternative that could deliver all the things the couple desired.

“We knew we wanted a house where the family could all be together and to have the wedding ceremony within walking distance of the beach,” Breanna says. Luckily, Villa Concha, with its spacious pool deck for receptions and a beautiful walkway to the beach, saved the celebration.

The second snag occurred just one day before the wedding, when bad weather in the States created flight delays. Some guests weren’t able to find a flight alternative and, thus, had to miss the wedding.

That’s why when we asked Breanna and Oscar for any advice they’d share with future couples, they responded definitively with, “Make sure people are there or trying to begin their travels 2-3 days before the big day.”

Despite that setback, the couple’s far-flung nuptials turned out exactly as they’d hoped… well, almost exactly.

“We had a sand ceremony that was supposed to be done with our daughter,” the bride says, “but she was, unfortunately, not feeling well.”

Nevertheless, Breanna and Oscar performed the sand ceremony, blending their separate jars of sand together in symbolism of two lives coming together to be one. During it all, Oscar’s family followed along, reading in Spanish everything that was being said.

Moving into the reception, a sign handmade in the couple’s Florida hometown displaying the couple’s names and wedding date sat beside the custom bottle opener favors. Meanwhile, pink, white, yellow and orange florals invited guests to take a seat at elegantly decorated tables, featuring pink and terracotta plates and gold flatware.

When all was said and done, the perfection of Breanna and Oscar’s  Playa Langosta wedding day did not come from a flawless schedule or a stress-free experience. It came from the way they handled the unexpected. Each challenge only proved their compatibility, and we think everyone can learn something from them.
