Sheng and Yean began their wedding planning journey with a shared desire for a beachside wedding in a lesser-visited part of South Asia. While searching for a destination that offered a new experience for both them and their guests, the couple fell in love with Phú Quốc, Vietnam.

“We felt it was the right location for our exotic destination wedding,” says Yean.

Sheng and Yean chose the JW Marriott Phú Quốc Emerald Bay as the setting for their wedding celebrations. They enlisted The Peak Xperience, a planning team that managed logistics and brought their vision to life. As RSVPs came in, the couple coordinated lodging so guests could enjoy a smooth check-in. Sheng and Yean also arranged a bus service to transport everyone from the airport to their accommodations.

“This made the entire journey stress-free and enjoyable for our loved ones,” says Sheng.

The wedding weekend began with a Vietnamese street food-themed welcome dinner, where the couple wore matching blue batiks. To bring the theme to life, Sheng and Yean partnered with a local restaurant owner who shut down operations for half a day and lent them rustic wooden benches and tables, adding charm and authenticity to the beachside dinner.

A friendly “Team Bride” versus “Team Groom” competition helped break the ice and set the tone for the festivities ahead.

“We really wanted to create the most memorable experiences for our family and friends,” says Sheng.

Bridesmaids wore flowing emerald green dresses, while the groom and his groomsmen donned tan suits.

The newlyweds’ reception reflected the magical charm of their favorite story, Harry Potter. Inspired by the university-themed design of the JW Marriott, Sheng and Yean brought their vision to life with subtle academic touches and whimsical wizardry that transformed the Grand Ballroom into a Hogwarts-like setting.

Looking back, Sheng and Yean cherished everything about their celebration and were especially grateful for the time spent with loved ones. The couple credits their experienced planners with easing the stress of the big day. Yean offers this reminder to other couples planning a destination wedding:

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Trust the process, go with the flow, and most importantly, take the time to pause and enjoy each moment.”
