Tien and Brian’s love for the water made the Cayman Islands an ideal pick for their Grand Cayman destination wedding. The tropical location is a relatively close distance from the East Coast, where many of their loved ones are from, which contributed to the special occasion.

“We knew we wanted a location that was safe to travel to and had easy access to great food options,” says Tien.

In terms of planning the wedding, the bride recommends not getting carried away or over-packing, which can contribute to stress. From her experience, putting trust in your wedding planner can improve the experience as a whole.

Advising guests to book their flight and hotel room in advance is another way to help the process go more smoothly. “Also, in June, the flights were not as expensive as they would be in peak season, so that helped,” says Tien. She suggests communicating with guests regarding where they are staying to help stay organized.

Although visiting the location in person is the most beneficial way to plan, sending photos to vendors regarding exactly what you are envisioning is a great alternative to effectively organize the event. However, the bride says to check your phone plan for any international charges beforehand. “We didn’t think about it and our phone bill was high,” she says.

Overall, the couple ended up spending more than average for a wedding with 113 guests, but they wanted it to be memorable. Tien and Brian scheduled a variety of activities for those who attended, including snorkeling, a tea ceremony and a welcome barbecue.

“We thought if our loved ones were going to spend their money to see us get married, then the money we spent on them would be worth it,” says Tien. “If we had to do it all over though, we would have just gotten married at the beach bbq! Everyone is on vacation and is there for you two!”

Overall, the couple had no regrets about having their wedding away from home. Being able to vacation with loved ones was not only a memorable experience for them, but for their guests as well. “If we had it at home, we and our guests wouldn’t have all those beach memories and stories we all shared,” says the bride.

Like most exciting events, the wedding flew by for the busy couple. The bride recommends trying not to get too caught up with planning and packing, but to just focus on yourself, your significant other and what makes the two of you happiest.

“You and your fiancé will be super exhausted, but try to take a moment here and there to take it all in together,” says Tien. “It’s over before you know it!”
