Surrounded by the lush scenery of their cherished destination, Shraddha (Rad) and Joseph (Joe) exchanged vows at the picturesque Agua Salada, blending vibrant Indian traditions with the laid-back charm of Costa Rica.
Rad and Joe’s connection to Tamarindo runs deep. “Our first vacation as a couple was to Costa Rica, and Tamarindo was the first leg of that trip,” Rad shares. “We wanted to bring everyone to where our love for travel first started. We also enjoyed the relaxed vibes of Tamarindo and felt like we wanted to have that vibe at our wedding.”
Finding the Perfect Venue: Agua Salada
The couple’s wedding planner, Mil Besos, guided them through the venue selection process. After exploring options, they chose Agua Salada, drawn to its seamless blend of elegance and natural beauty. “Some advice—check out what potential layouts would look like for your wedding at different venues,” Joe suggests, emphasizing the importance of envisioning how a space will come to life for your special day.
A Cultural Fusion of Traditions
Rad and Joe honored their heritage by weaving traditional Indian customs into their Costa Rican celebration. Highlights included the Baraat, a spirited procession where Joe entered on a regal white horse as loved ones danced around him, and the emotional Saptapadi, where the couple took seven symbolic steps representing prosperity, strength, and unity. These moments added depth and vibrancy to the festivities, creating unforgettable memories for everyone involved.
Personal Touches: A Feast for the Senses
Rad’s stunning gown, designed by Kalki in India, and Joe’s dashing outfit from Manyavar exuded royal charm. “Since we had a ‘western’ wedding the day prior with more subtle colors, we wanted bright colors at our Indian wedding!” Rad says. Their florist, Stylos & Flores, delivered vibrant arrangements that popped against Tamarindo’s tropical backdrop.
Guests were treated to unique details, including Gulab Jamun, a traditional Indian dessert catered by Tandoor Indian Restaurant, replacing a conventional wedding cake. Dinner was serenaded by acoustic guitarist Emanuel Carrillo, adding to the intimate ambiance.
Coordinating Logistics and Overcoming Challenges
“Mil Besos did a lot of guest coordination for us,” Rad explains. Guests were thoughtfully accommodated in hotels, Airbnbs, and villas, fostering a communal atmosphere.
However, surprises are inevitable. Rad recounts one hiccup: “We had the wrong playlist for the DJ to use! We laughed it off and ultimately got the right one onto his computer.” Another day, the town ran out of water, prompting quick thinking to ensure Rad could prepare at a nearby hotel. Their advice? “Be prepared to be flexible.”
Lessons Learned for Future Couples
Reflecting on their experience, Rad and Joe emphasize the importance of clear communication, especially when working with vendors in another country. “Make sure everything has been formally addressed,” they advise. They also recommend preparing guests for local conditions—like Tamarindo’s warm weather—and leaving a financial cushion for unexpected expenses.
A Celebration to Remember
Rad and Joe’s Tamarindo wedding was a testament to their adventurous spirit and deep connection to the location. By combining vibrant traditions, stunning surroundings, and heartfelt moments, they created a tropical celebration for the books!
