Kristin and Troy’s chemistry all started with a shared passion for football and a chance encounter in a Santa Monica bar.

Recalling the moment, Kristin shared, “There was an instant attraction and level of comfort.” The couple’s shared love for sports and lazy beach days laid the foundation for a connection that has stood the test of time. From that weekend onward, Kristin and Troy became inseparable.

Why did they opt for a destination wedding? “We love to travel – a destination wedding fit our interests and personality.” The couple wanted to offer their guests a unique and exciting experience, and what better way than to celebrate their love in a warm and beautiful location?

Choosing Punta Cana felt almost as natural as deciding to take the celebration overseas. Having visited Meliá Punta Cana Beach Resort in the past, Kristin and Troy fell in love with the stunning location and outstanding service.

“We wanted to host our destination wedding somewhere unique to our guests, who were mostly coming from the West Coast of the US,” the couple says.

Despite not doing pre-wedding site visits, the couple praised their venue for providing stellar vendors for every aspect of their wedding, eliminating the need to search for external help. This support made planning from afar much smoother.

Melia’s decoration vendor and florist, ALR Eventos, took care of the flowers, lighting, and more, bringing the couple’s vision to life. Despite the challenges of bringing items to the Dominican Republic, Kristin and Troy managed DIY projects, including welcome gift bags and custom-made luggage tags. These personal touches made guests feel honored for making the journey out to the Caribbean to celebrate with the couple.

Describing their ceremony as “elegant, simple, and FUN,” the couple focused on creating a memorable experience for themselves and their guests. They incorporated unique Dominican elements such as a Caribbean band, cigar roller, and local libations.

Reflecting on their experience, Kristin highlighted the unique advantage of hosting a wedding away from home in Punta Cana: “Because we had a destination wedding, we were able to spend ample time with our guests over the course of a long weekend.”

Kristin and Troy’s advice for future couples planning a destination wedding is simple yet profound: “Have FUN and enjoy every minute of being in paradise with your spouse and your loved ones. You will never get the opportunity to bring those people together again in such a special place!”
