From Belgium and New Zealand, having met and lived in London, Larissa and Tarun planned to have a destination wedding in Asia, where families and friends from home countries and beyond could spend quality time together. Their dream led them to Koh Samui for a Thailand wedding.

“We wanted to find a dreamy spot in the middle, where our worlds could meet,” Larissa says. “We also wanted to get married in the environment that makes us happiest – on a warm beach!

When it came to decor, Larissa and Tarun felt fortunate because the scenery was already naturally stunning. Keeping it simple, the couple wanted the decor to be elegant and natural with touches of wood, beige and white linen, white flowers, and lots of foliage.

“Our favorite details were hand-woven lanterns and fans that our wedding planner (Wannida of Wonders & Weddings) sourced from a local Thai maker,” the bride says.

Choosing a beachfront ceremony in Koh Samui close to their villas, each partner enjoyed the early moments of their special days with their beloved friends and families.

The wedding day was officiated by a close friend, whom the couple were able to work with to create a structure unique to them. The result? A myriad of various traditions and non-traditional elements including guests singing La Vie en Rose, ring warming, and writing original vows

The couple had their portrait session on the Koh Samui beach during the evening while loved ones gathered at cocktail hour. The Thai-inspired reception dinner came with minimal elegant tablescape and tropical fruit stations. Together with their loved ones, they danced the night away by the ocean!

When asked how a wedding back home instead of in Koh Samui would have differed, Larissa and Tarun had this to say:

“It would have been much more difficult to gather such a wonderfully diverse group of people and another challenge to spend time with everybody. Being on a remote island for a week meant that everybody truly bonded, which was far and away our favorite part of the experience.”
