Kamie and David’s families lived on opposite coasts, so rather than choosing their home base to say “I do” they opted to pick a destination that was special to them and have a Palm Springs destination wedding.

Palm Springs was the couple’s first getaway destination which made it the perfect place for the two to tie the knot. They had the wedding in November, so their families were excited to escape to a warm destination in the autumn.

The couple definitely had sunshine on their wedding, so much so that the extreme heat meant they served lots of ice water to cool down their guests and provided some umbrellas during the ceremony for those who wanted some shade on the sunny day.

With the heat being the only issue the couple ran into, it is easy to call the big day a success. The couple says they had a great time planning the wedding.

They made a full weekend affair out of their big day, making the wedding a Thursday-Sunday event. However, they had guests come as early as Tuesday and some stay a few days following to make the most of the getaway.

“We wouldn’t have been able to spend as such time with people before and after the wedding if it wasn’t a destination wedding,” the couple says.

The couple says that their planner, Jessica Lauren Events, was a big help in the wedding preparations, and the couple also incorporated plenty of DIY projects to add their personal touches to the wedding.

The bride had-cut the tulle for each ceremony chair, created a family photo wall and handmade the table numbers, cake plates and escort cards. She even designed her own wedding dress, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

The Palm Springs location was perfect for the couple and their guests. It was convenient because of the multiple options for guests to stay at, such as low range lodges, Airbnbs and five star hotels.

The couple tied the knot on a beautiful sunny day in Palm Springs. For future destination couples, the bride advises “You spend a lot of energy making everyone else happy, but try not to let it take away from your own happiness both in the planning process and on the day.”
