The romantic and intimate atmosphere of Positano, a picturesque seaside town on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, compelled New York natives Kathleen and Nicholas to travel overseas to have a destination wedding. The scenic views, vibrant Mediterranean colors, and relaxed European vibe provided everything they needed for a once-in-a-lifetime type of celebration.
While hunting for venues, Villa Oliviero stood out to Kathleen and Nicholas for its one-of-a-kind views. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the couple could picture their ceremony taking place here. “I LOVED that the villa has different sections for different parts of the wedding,” the bride says. The couple knew they could easily differentiate the vibes of the ceremony from the cocktail hour, dinner and dance party with the various locations available and the expert design eye of their planner, Victoria Morris of Sophisticated Weddings.
“The [planning] process was really easy because she provided a timeline, presented vendors, ideas, and suggestions on how to stick within the budget, which was important to me,” Kathleen explains. “She was always so patient and responsive, and she reassured me that we were on track. I’m glad she did because the entire experience truly exceeded my expectations. I had the wedding of my dreams!”
The couple kicked off their wedding weekend with a lively welcome dinner at La Tagliata, featuring local musicians and family-style dining.
The wedding day brought an event packed with personal touches, most notably in the ceremony. Kathleen and Nicholas exchanged vows in front of their guests, overlooking the city of Positano and the big blue sea. White flower petals adorned the aisle with two large arrangements on either side of the couple. To honor Nicholas’ Jewish background in the ceremony, the groom broke a glass as the celebrant explained its significance to all attendees.
Following the wedding, the couple also hosted a brunch at Villa Oliviero and enjoyed a relaxing beach day where everyone reminisced about the festivities of the previous night.
Looking back, the couple advises other couples, “Don’t overthink.” Kathleen adds, “The entire town is just stunning. You can’t go wrong with any venue you pick. Hospitality is at the heart of what they do. Trust that whatever place you pick will do its best to make it memorable for you.”
