This couple wanted to party in Mexico with their best buds and family by their side for a wedding like no other. The bride found the perfect venue to help them do just that. Acre in San Jose del Cabo had exactly what they needed, two words: tree houses.

“We met in 2013 at a mutual friend’s rooftop birthday party in San Francisco. We were dressed up in 1920’s Gatsby attire for a themed party. Looking back, we looked adorable,” Gina says.

The start to Max and Gina’s love story is almost like a movie. Although they had mutual friends, they’d somehow never crossed paths until the night of the rooftop party. They immediately hit it off, talking and dancing all night. At the end of the night, Max asked Gina out to dinner. Fives dates followed in just one week that’d spark a lifetime of love.

A unique love story required nothing less than a unique location to wed. Gina came across Acre Baja in San Jose del Cabo and adored the idea of renting out the entire hotel comprised of 12 tree houses.

“One of the things we loved most about Acre Baja was that it was an animal lover’s paradise,” the couple says. “The venue has an on-site puppy/dog rescue (yes, really), that we visited every day to get our fix of puppy love.”

Complete with puppies and a sassy pet peacock named Chunky, the property seemed to check all of the couple’s the boxes, including amazing food, drinks and design.

Being a designer herself, Gina couldn’t wait to get creative with the help of a team of stellar vendors to help her plan the all-out celebration of a wedding. Bonnie and Heidi with Events by Bliss took the wedding design board Gina created and ran with it.

The wedding wouldn’t be just one day of festivities, but an entire weekend! After all, it was the bride’s mother’s first time traveling internationally and other guests came from all over, so it needed to be special. On Friday, after guests arrived, the crew headed out for a sub crawl with Mezcal tastings, cracking cold ones at Baja Brewing Company and later drinks at Dalton Gin Bar. Saturday brought chill vibes at Cabo Surf Hotel as the group soaked up the sun on the beach with margaritas and small bites. That same evening was the rehearsal dinner at Casa Calavera.

The Sunday wedding needed to carry on the light, fun-filled vibe of the weekend. Luckily, a little birdy helped make that happen.

“I entered the ceremony lawn from the garden. Our guests began to stand up, the music shifted, all eyes turned on me, and, right then, Chunky the peacock let out a series of ear-splitting cries just a few feet away at the edge of the ceremony lawn. Everyone erupted into laughter and I walked down the aisle feeling joyous and light,” Gina says.

For a wedding that reflects who you are as a couple, Max and Gina advise a return to the basics.

“When you get overwhelmed, just remember what the purpose of the wedding is: a day to celebrate your commitment to one another among family and friends,” the couple says. “No matter what happens, that’s all that matters.”
