Megan and Kyle’s wedding was the kind of day that felt thoughtful without feeling try-hard. Relaxed, colorful, personal, and very them. They got married at Indian Springs Metropark in White Lake, Michigan, and honestly, it made so much sense once you hear their story.

A modern lakeside building, a group of women in colorful dresses standing in a field, and a floral-themed wedding invitation with flowers around it.

Even though Megan and Kyle live in Los Angeles now, southeast Michigan is still home in the deepest way. They both grew up there, their families are there, and logistics mattered. “We both have grandparents who can’t travel very far,” Kyle shares, which immediately shaped their plans. Keeping things close meant more hugs, more grandparents, and less stress for the people they love most.

Their venue, Indian Springs Metropark, felt like the perfect fit. They loved the flexibility and the natural feel of the space. “Some of the things we specifically liked about the venue included the indoor-outdoor options, the meadow where we had our ceremony, and the wildflowers,” Megan says. That meadow ended up being the heart of the day, soft summer light, tall grasses, and just enough structure to feel intentional without feeling staged.

Now let’s talk about Megan’s DIY era, because this is where things get good. Megan made every single vase used for the centerpieces…Not styled them, made them. “Each vase was unique, no two like one another,” Kyle tells us. She spent hours experimenting, tweaking, and starting over, and the result was a collection of beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces that doubled as meaningful keepsakes after the wedding. “The vases gave everyone a chance to once again witness Megan’s creativity,” Kyle adds, which he loved so much he even referenced it in his vows. Cue everyone tearing up.

The overall aesthetic was joyful and colorful, very wildflower energy in the best way. Megan’s vision was literally wildflowers, and everything followed that lead. “All the bridesmaids wore very vibrant, colorful dresses,” Megan explains, and the florals were carefully chosen to feel organic rather than overly styled. It all felt natural, like it belonged exactly where it was.

The ceremony itself was refreshingly simple. Megan and Kyle were married under an oak tree by Kyle’s best friend from high school.  “Ultimately, we wanted something pretty simple and straightforward,” the bride says. “We wanted to get up there, share how much we loved each other, exchange rings, get married, and get people inside so they could eat and dance.” Honestly, goals.

Planning from across the country could have been chaotic, but Kyle’s mom stepped in as the ultimate planner energy. “Without a doubt my mother was the most helpful when planning from afar,” Kyle admits. “She was able to handle any minor problem we might have had with ease.” Megan was also able to visit the venue when she was back in Michigan for her bridal shower, which helped everything click into place.

As for why Michigan over Los Angeles, the answer was emotional and practical all at once. “Even though we live in Los Angeles, southeast Michigan is still very much a home to the both of us,” Kyle explained. Having their grandparents there was non-negotiable, and trying to make that happen on the West Coast would have meant serious sacrifices. “At the end of the day, though, it just would’ve felt wrong,” he said. “Los Angeles is where we live, but the Great Lakes are our home.”

When it comes to advice, Megan and Kyle are the friends who actually give you the good stuff. “Get as much done as you can as early as you can,” the bride says, explaining that most of their big decisions were locked in at least six months ahead of time. That meant way less chaos leading up to the day. They were also realistic about priorities. “You can’t have everything you want,” Megan admits. For them, food was the hill they were willing to die on, so catering took up the biggest chunk of the budget.

And then there’s the reminder we all need. “Try to relax,” the couple advises. “Things are going to go wrong, yes, like they do at all weddings, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you have a positive attitude.” Megan and Kyle leaned into that mindset, and it shows.
