Lauren and Estefania’s passion for travel and desire to share that joy with their loved ones led them to choose a destination celebration for their nuptials. The couple’s shared Mexican heritage and love for Mexico is what pushed them toward a wedding in San Miguel de Allende.

The brides described their destination as “ a magical city with stunning rooftops, delicious food, and rich history.”

To kick off the planning, Lauren and Estefania recruited Penzi Weddings and selected Villa Santa Monica for a dreamy outdoor ceremony and reception. The couple fell in love with the villa’s beautiful courtyard and lush grounds where guests could wander.

“Our chosen decor theme revolved around classic sophistication,” Lauren says. “Our goal was to infuse an abundance of greenery and white flowers, maintaining a decor style that was both refined and straightforward.”

In the months leading up to their special day, the brides traveled to San Miguel de Allende two times for various planning activities. They even conducted a trial photoshoot on one of the visits!

Estefania and Lauren also introduced personalizations to the mix like incorporating Mojiangas to add a touch of festivity and Talavera shot glasses as guest favors. Another particularly intimate addition: Lauren and Estefania’s first look wherein they exchanged personal vows before the official ceremony.

“The ceremony stood out as one of the most cherished aspects of our wedding,” Estefania says.  “The backdrop was filled with the melodious tunes of chirping birds. As a same-sex couple, we chose to walk down the aisle simultaneously, each starting from opposite sides.”

Additionally, Estefania’s sister took on the role of officiating the ceremony and reading passages.

Ultimately, the couple has no regrets in selecting a destination affair over planning something more traditional in Texas, where the two reside. Bringing friends and family to San Miguel, allowed Lauren and Estefania to embrace the city’s enchantment, rich culture, and delectable cuisine with their favorite people.

When asked for wisdom to impart to others in the midst of planning their destination weddings, the brides had this to say:

“Our suggestion is to begin the process by narrowing down the locations and regions that resonate with your vision for your special day. Start researching potential vendors and wedding planners in those chosen areas. It’s highly recommended to schedule a trip to personally visit your options since photos and reality can often differ, usually for the better.”
