After passing through the friendly town of Zihuatanejo and arriving at Capella Ixtapa, I was met with a stunning view of the Pacific, a stiff sea breeze and casual smiles. This wasn’t my first visit to a Capella property and I had high expectations to say the least. The brand was created a mere six years ago and is still a well-kept secret – great for you and me as the rates are still reasonable for what you get. With unparalleled service and properties enviously unique to their destination, I’ve become a loyal follower of the brand and so will you.

With no check-in and check-out times, you’ll have a hard time leaving. Capella Ixtapa is a perfect honeymoon hot-spot for many reasons, but mostly for its privacy, attention to detail and idyllic setting. All employees learn the names of each and every guest and are educated on your comings and goings. Walking to my spa appointment I was asked by the friendly bell-hop, Cruz, “Ms. Cox, how was your sunset sail?” What could be perceived as over-the-top was delivered with such genuine sincerity I couldn’t help but smile.

The accommodations also aim to make the resort’s occupants feel important. Even the most “basic” suite boasts a broad patio, private plunge pool and meticulously decorated living spaces. Those in charge know what makes this location special because all 59 suites have sea views from every room. The Pacific is inescapable here, even in the shower you can enjoy the view and relax to the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks below.

The rooms are so nice in fact, nearly 90 percent of guests choose to take their meals en-suite. It’s a good place to be since complimentary Mexican beer, handmade guacamole and fresh pico de gallo are delivered to your room daily. Want to explore? No problem, Capella Ixtapa offers three different and delicious restaurants, two infinity pools and a state-of-the-art spa. My favorites were Taco Night with authentic street-style Mexican tacos and the renowned bread at Amares Restaurant made with the resort’s own apple yeast.

The one drawback of the hotel’s hillside location is the lack of an on-site beach, but with the breathtaking views, you won’t miss it. If you and your new spouse do decide to venture out, the charming town of Zihuatanejo is a mere ten minutes away. This former fishing village hasn’t lost the authenticity which makes Mexico so wonderful. While parts of the nation have been rocked by crime, this private getaway is known as a safe, family-friendly escape. In fact, this is where Mexicans choose to vacation as it has retained its cultural distinctiveness.

Back in Ixtapa, the resort’s spiraling staircases, jungle-lined pathways and golden façade make you feel the true essence of escape and will put you in the mood to do exactly that – escape the everyday worries of reality and venture into the realm of authentic Mexican hospitality. Capella Ixtapa will meet your most basic desires for travel abroad: the hospitality of home mixed with the adventure and allure of destinations unknown.
