“I Do” as the Locals Do

If you’re considering a destination wedding and are after sunny skies, miles of golf course options, temperate weather (at least in the fall-spring months), hiking, spa and really amazing food, Scottsdale, Arizona should top your list. Sure, it lacks an ocean, but it more than makes up for it with beautiful sunsets and a bevy of gorgeous resorts.

One famed landmark is Camelback Mountain; known for its hiking and interesting shape (it does look like a camel from almost any vantage point). For the destination wedding couple, the abundance of great resorts flanking the mountain allows for a picturesque and unforgettable event. One property I’ve recently visited is Mountain Shadows, which sits on the north side of Camelback Mountain.

The property has a rich history and recently underwent a $100-million rebuild and a full revamp of the state’s only par-3, 18-hole golf course locals are known to frequent. The new accommodations are modern, sleek and airy. Every corner of the resort is softened by the beautiful light pouring through the floor-to-ceiling windows and the stark white walls are brightened by the stunning artwork and interesting furnishings.

Their signature restaurant, Hearth ’61 offers spectacular food morning, noon and night. Led by Chef Charles Wiley, the menu offers seasonal, simple plates with a fresh, interesting take on ingredients.

Another newly re-imagined property is The Scott Resort & Spa. Located just down the road from “Old Town” (the “it” place to dine, shop and play in Scottsdale), The Scott feels like a throwback to simpler times. Modeled after Spanish Revival-style architecture with a nod to 1960s Havana, the open spaces feel at one with the outdoors. Every space of the resort is thoughtfully designed, encouraging guest engagement and relaxation. From tucked away enclaves to private dining areas, you can get away from it all right in the heart of Scottsdale.

The entire resort (from guest rooms to common areas) have been remodeled, but with touches of the traditional elements that harken to the property’s 50 years of history.

Enjoy a meal at The Canal Club, offering a blended menu of American classics and Caribbean flare. Most evenings they’ll be showing a classic film outside where you can pull up a chair and enjoy the romantic ambiance.

No matter where you choose in Scottsdale – great food, beautiful landscapes and ideal weather combine to create a space as special as the love you’re celebrating.
