Your honeymoon is not only a time for romance, but for adventure! Whether that means your idea of adventure is snorkeling just off shore with tropical fish or hiking through the jungle looking for wildlife. For those newlyweds looking to walk on the wild side, an African safari honeymoon is always a sure-fire way to have a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience! Admittedly, safaris aren’t for everyone, but if you’re wanting to leave behind cell service and the hassle of everyday life, there are few more immersive places than Africa. Thanks to growing popularity in the last decade or so, the number of safari companies has grown leaps and bounds – most of which offer romance packages specifically for honeymooners.
One such safari company is Nomad Tanzania. The company has been around for over 20 years and specializes in romantic safaris across Northern, Western and Southern Tanzania. In all, Nomad Tanzania has 10 camps to choose from, all of which offer a slightly different experience or environment. The goal is to create authentic, bespoke safaris that offer high-end travel. According to Nomad Tanzania, your safari should allow you to experience authentic, environmentally aware and wildlife-loving adventure! The company is currently offering a Honeymoon Itinerary that is available for booking from now until December 2018. The Honeymoon Itinerary offers brides a 50% discount for each night’s accommodation and the total cost for the safari for two people is roughly $9,700.
The Honeymoon Itinerary includes:
DAY ONE – (Accommodation: Kigelia Ruaha)
Take a morning flight from Dar es Salam to Msembe Airstrip in Ruaha National Park. Here you will be met and driven to Kigelia Ruaha, a beautifully rustic bush camp in the heart of the Ruaha National Park, arriving in time for a delicious lunch for two in camp. After lunch, refresh, unwind and unpack before heading out on an afternoon game drive – a taster of what will be an action packed three days in this stunning park. Return to camp for a refreshing outdoor bucket shower, drinks around the campfire and a romantic, candlelit three-course dinner.
DAY TWO – (Accommodation: Kigelia Ruaha)
Start the day with an early morning wake up and coffee and tea delivered to your room. Head out on your game drive with your expert guide whilst the day is breaking and witness some of the activity going on in the cooler part of the day. Stop for a Champagne picnic breakfast on the edge of the river and watch herds of elephants arrive for their morning drink. Carry on exploring the rich offerings of Ruaha into the late morning before heading back to camp for a delicious lunch. During the heat of the day relax in camp, indulge in a game of backgammon on your veranda and quietly take in the magic of Africa in each other’s company. After tea, set out again with your guide for an afternoon game drive; witness lions lazing around under the shade of a baobab tree, try and spot the hanging tale of a leopard snoozing up in the branches or watch a family of hippos cooling off in the river. Get back to camp and enjoy another dinner under the stars listening to the sounds of Africa and savoring the day’s wildlife encounters.
DAY THREE – (Accommodation: Kigelia Ruaha)
Getting out on foot is one of the best ways to experience a safari, so this morning you can head out for a morning walk with your guide. This is a chance to learn about all the little things in the bush that you might not see from a vehicle. You may even encounter big game, which is an incredibly exhilarating experience on foot.
Iconic purple-tinged hills provide the backdrop to the open plains of Ruaha and there is no better place to capture these views than whilst enjoying sundowners on top of a nearby hill after a day of game drives. This evening, after your sundowners, continue with your guide on a night drive and discover some of the nocturnal animals that call Ruaha home.
DAY FOUR – (Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous)
Enjoy a lazy morning with breakfast in camp before hitching a ride to Msembe airstrip and waving goodbye to Kigelia. Fly south down to the Selous to Kiba Airstrip where you will be met by your guide and taken to Nomad Tanzania’s beautiful Sand Rivers Selous perched on the banks of the Rufiji River. Take the afternoon to relax in your riverfront room or cooling off in the pool before enjoying dinner on your private veranda.
DAY FIVE – (Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous)
This morning enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading out on a full day’s game drive which will give you and your loved one a chance to explore a totally different, but just as magical environment. You might start by shadowing the Rufiji River or heading out onto more open plains…spotting some fresh tracks will lead to a foray on foot to explore further. At lunchtime you’ll arrive at the hot springs – a refreshing dip in these natural plunge pools will help you work up an appetite for a delicious picnic lunch in the heart of Selous. Then enjoy a short game drive back to camp for hot showers and pre-dinner drinks around the bar. Your day ends with another sensational dinner looking out over the river in a hopelessly romantic setting.
DAY SIX – (Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous)
Take a boat on the water for an early morning river cruise stopping off on a sandbar in the scenic Stiegler’s Gorge for a picnic breakfast. Witness some of the amazing game viewing as you gently drift back to camp side by side. After a lunch head out for an afternoons safari, either on foot or in your vehicle, ending up lakeside for a nights fly camping. Spend the night totally immersed in the African bush with just the two of you and a small exclusive crew for company. Iced sundowners and a roaring camp fire will be waiting to welcome you; then wind down with an exceptional three course dinner before bedding down for the night in a netted tent with views up to the most spectacular star littered canopy.
DAY SEVEN – (Accommodation: Sand Rivers Selous)
After a delicious breakfast, set out for a morning game drive to explore the wildlife and birds of Lake Tagalala and the incredible surrounding areas. Enjoy a lunch back at camp before another relaxing afternoon by the pool. As the heat of the day passes, amble up river on a sunset cruise. Sip on a glass of Champagne as you watch the sun go down for the last time over the African skyline.
DAY EIGHT
A leisurely start this morning with a cup of tea as the sun rises, followed by your last breakfast with a view of the mile-wide Rufiji River. A short game drive will find you at the airstrip where you’ll board your flight to Dar es Salaam.
