Ryan and Lindsey aren’t new to destination weddings. The Colorado couple had a destination wedding once before in Malibu, California, but they wanted to try somewhere different when they chose to renew their vows. Picking a place their whole family could enjoy, they chose to have a destination vow renewal in Punta de Mita, a small fishing village in Mexico near Puerto Vallarta that’s surrounded by crystal clear water.

The couple has been going to Mexico for years, but it was their first time in Punta de Mita and they got to have their entire family with them for the occasion. “We planned our renewal around the family vacation. Everyone was thankful they didn’t need to plan another trip, we fit it right in,” Lindsey says. The area offered a variety of activities for Ryan and Lindsey’s family to enjoy on the days leading up to the renewal, making it the perfect place to have their destination vow renewal.

For planning their special day, the couple wanted it to be as stress-free as possible because in the past, the couple spent over a year to plan their Malibu wedding. “We purposely wanted to keep the vow renewal causal and relaxed,” says Lindsey. “Our wedding photographer, Danielle DeFiore, helped with a ton of the details like forging our own flowers, planning our dinner, etcetera.”

The renewal took place at Inspirato, a luxury hospitality club, which Ryan and Lindsey recommend to other couples. It was “first-class service from start to finish” the couple says. At the Inspirato, the couple’s family stayed in private homes thanks to Lindsey’s stepbrother. “We all were able to split the costs of the private homes, and no one had ever been to Punta de Mita. It was affordable for the whole family, and we all got to enjoy the private beaches, private chef, fun activities and celebrating our love.”

We asked Ryan and Lindsey what advice they would give other couples preparing for the big day. They say to always be present in the moments leading up to your wedding, as well as in the day itself. “Don’t let the little things get in the way of being happy. People put so much pressure on the day, and in retrospect, it’s an important day, but staying positive is everything. Take time to yourself even if it’s just a minute or two,” says Lindsey. Additionally, they suggest hiring a wedding planner to take the pressure off planning your destination wedding.

For couples choosing to have a destination wedding or vow renewal, the couple says, “The amount we spent was worth every penny. Our guests took away a once-in-a-lifetime experience. They got a family vacation and memories [that will last] forever.”
