Alissa and Henry’s gorgeous wedding at Acre Baja in Los Cabos, Mexico knocked our socks off with its striking decor and soft color palette. But, we were really blown away when we heard the story of their special day straight from the bride herself. We wanted you to experience what we did, so we left the story just how Alissa told us. Get ready to fall in love with this Cabo wedding!

“We officially met at a middle school dance but didn’t start dating until high school. So I guess that makes us high school sweethearts!

There was actually no big proposal but instead during a casual conversation over dinner on how to celebrate our 15th year anniversary the topic of ring shopping came up. The conversation quickly escalated to eloping in less than 48 hours to marry on our anniversary date. So after nearly 15 years of dating, we decided it was time! We went to get rings, stopped for flowers and some tacos; walked over to the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder Office and got married!

Planning a destination wedding can be scary and nerve-wracking because there are so many unknowns but Bonnie and the Bliss Events team did such a phenomenal job helping us along the way. It was amazing to see how the team brought our vision to life from a few Pinterest pins, mood boards and emails. There were elements of the wedding details that we completely trusted Bonnie and the team to handle since we were not able to see physically ourselves. We were so in love with how they were able to perfectly blend those surprises with the many DIY/personalized decor we were bringing from home. Bonnie was always available to offer great suggestions not just for a wedding day but for our entire wedding weekend!

It was important to us that our wedding reflected who we are as a couple. Not only that, but we wanted to really create a memorable experience for all of our guests. The first key part was our venue. We love to travel so it had always been a dream to have a destination wedding and a bonus if it offered an al fresco dining experience. When we first saw photos of Acre Baja we instantly knew we wanted to host our wedding there. The overall vibe we aimed for was romantic, modern minimalism. We still wanted things to feel traditionally romantic and feminine but with modern accents. We also wanted to highlight the beauty and lushness of Acre so we kept a more neutral palette and complimented the blues/greens of the venue with added warmth using terracotta and apricot colors.

Although it can be difficult to DIY a destination wedding, we still found lots of ways to personalize and customize ours. We personally hand-lettered our seating charts. We designed elements of our invitation suite and dinner menus. Our table numbers were named after some of our favorite countries/cities we’ve traveled to and displayed real polaroids of us we’ve taken there. The bar menu had custom cocktail names (one named after our cute pup with a polaroid of him included). The wedding gown was completely custom made. We found cute cufflinks that resembled our pup! We carefully selected and curated a playlist to set the mood for the cocktail and dinner.

Our wedding had so many memorable moments it’s hard to pick just one! Our wedding was hosted over Thanksgiving weekend and it truly felt like one big family celebration. There was a moment during dinner where we just sat and took in the moment of joy and love all around us. We were so grateful that we could have so many of our family and friends travel to celebrate our marriage with us. So many of our guests have seen us through different stages of our relationship/life that it was really special to create a new memory with each one.”
