“I Do” Deep in the Heart of Texas
Words by Samantha RossIt seems everywhere you turn these days, Austin, Texas, is making headlines. Known as the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin also boasts barbecue to die for and gorgeous weather throughout the majority of the year. It’s no wonder so many couples are choosing this dynamic city to host their destination wedding. If you’re thinking of planning your big day in Austin, two downtown venues are definitely worth your consideration.
The first hotel to be built in Austin in 1886, The Driskill easily encapsulates the history and tradition of Texas, while also offering luxurious accommodations and event spaces for beautiful, modern weddings. A wedding at The Driskill means having an entire floor of space to create your dream wedding. Included in this arrangement are five guestroom suites to accommodate family and friends. And at The Driskill, the presidential suite really means presidential. President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady Claudia “Ladybird” Johnson have their own designated suite. It’s decorated in pure Texas-style and frequently inhabited by current and past presidents visiting the state capital. With stunning stained glass windows, it’s no wonder this is the room most couples choose as their own.
Because of its history, every room, event space and suite at The Driskill is unique. Boasting both bakery and grill in-house, each detail of your wedding is handcrafted and curated with meaning and Southern hospitality. Experience Afternoon Tea, an institution at the hotel (and hugely popular with wedding parties) where you can dine on three courses of classic French pastries and sip premium loose-leaf tea and sparkling wine. Pinkies out!
Not to be outdone, and located just steps away, the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin hotel impresses. The Stephen F. Austin has been an Austin landmark for almost a century and a mainstay for VIPs and celebrities visiting the city. For a couple who relates to Austin’s unique and quirky culture, but don’t want to sacrifice extravagance, this is the venue for you. Highlights include a balcony that overlooks the famous Paramount Theater, a low-key speak-easy with killer, handcrafted cocktails that can be rented for private events, and a 3,800 square-foot ballroom. Every detail, even down to the color of your ambient lighting, is taken care of. From the main lobby, you can dine at one of the city’s premier restaurants, The Roaring Fork, and once again, you and your party are just steps from the city’s best nightlife and entertainment.
The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas, but it’s a sure bet none of those stars will shine as beautifully as your love, when you say “I do” in fabulous Austin.
