So your absolute worst fear came true: you lost your ring. Like, gone gone, no coming back, no chance of finding it. Now what? Hear from the pros exactly what to do next!

Losing your engagement ring is surely a nightmare, and although we all like to think it would never happen to us...the reality is that it is a possibility! Given this nightmare of a possibility, the best thing you can do is be prepared. Your engagement ring should come with an appraisal, if you inherited an heirloom ring or your ring didn’t come with an appraisal, this is a must-have document! Getting your ring appraised is easy, affordable, and well worth it! Call around to local jewelers and work with a jeweler you trust to get your ring appraised.

Just because you have your ring appraised does not mean it is insured. Once you have this document you need to submit it to your homeowner or renters insurance policy to get the ring insured under your policy. If you don’t have a homeowner or renter insurance policy we recommend using Jewelers Mutual to get it insured. You may want to do some research and shop around for the policy that has the best coverage! Having your engagement ring insured will have you covered if you lose your engagement ring, and make replacing it a much easier and stress-free process.

Getting your ring insured immediately is best, don’t wait around for this; you want to protect yourself, and your significant other, in case the unimaginable happens.

So you’ve lost your engagement ring, first thing you want to do is contact your insurance, get the claim process started and figure out the logistics of how they manage the situation. This is the best-case scenario! From there you should be able to reach out to your trusty jeweler and begin the process of replacing your engagement ring.

Worst case scenario, the ring is gone, and you aren’t insured. This is when you need to take a few deep breaths, and have a very serious conversation with your significant other regarding the situation. This means you have to out-of-pocket replace the ring. Once you have replaced your engagement ring, get it insured immediately! This will protect you in case this ever happens again.
