Set along the turquoise waters of Mexico’s Riviera Maya lies La Casa de la Playa, a sumptuous, private, all-inclusive resort perfect for wedding couples and honeymooners alike. The hotel has been designed to pamper guests like actress Angelina Jolie, who recently visited, and showcase the Mexican culture through the use of natural materials, art, culinary offerings and cultural references.
Upon your arrival, you’ll meet your private butler, who will cater to your every whim, whether it’s unpacking your belongings or drawing a midnight bubble bath. The property has 63 suites spread among three buildings and all suites feature Mexican wood and stone, along with area-crafted tiles, textiles, basket lighting and artwork. In addition to a supremely comfortable bed overlooking the ocean, your suite has a sitting area, oversized bathroom and outdoor patio complete with a lounging bed, volcanic rock bathtub and hammock hanging over your own private plunge pool. All body products, from the honey bath gel to cucumber body lotion, are locally made and you’ll find a welcome bottle of champagne in your room, along with Mexican-style snacks in the minibar. One of the room’s more unique features is an in-wall aquarium containing dozens of baby jellyfish gently propelling themselves through the water. The other is the two-way cupboard in the suite’s changing area allowing for contactless room service. You may never want to leave your suite.
Should you decide to leave, however, myriad temptations await you starting with the resort’s massive infinity pool surrounded by plush lounge chairs. Nearby sits a bar ready to whip up tropical drinks. You’ll find several more bars dotted around the property, as well as a help-your-self wine cellar filled with bottles of international wines.
If tequila is more your speed, head to the Bodega, a self-serve bar proffering bottles of tequila and mezcal to sample, along with sipping cups and all the fixings. Next door lies the Chocolateria, another help-yourself slice of paradise showcasing all things chocolate—a pot of warm cinnamon-infused cocoa, stacks of chocolate truffles, bonbons and bark, along with chocolate ice creams and popsicles. Next to the Chcolateria sits a boutique selling locally-made jewelry, clothing and art.
Other property attractions include the casual restaurant Tuch de Luna, which serves Mexican-style breakfasts, lunches and casual dinners. The smaller, quieter Estero restaurant has more esoteric Mexican offerings. Should you wish to work out, the property has a spacious, well-equipped gym and a rooftop Astro-turf paddle tennis court and lounging pool. Muluk Spa offers multiple body treatments and has two salt rooms, two mud rooms and a hydrotherapy pool overlooking the beach.
The spa also has a beauty clinic and bridal suite, available to couples planning to say, “I do.” And the most popular place to do so is on the beach at sunset in front of a floral arch overlooking the water. The property also can arrange a toes-in-the-sand celebratory dinner—also available for honeymooners—under a canopy of white flowers and soft lights featuring such delicacies as white gazpacho and tuna ceviche garnished with edible flowers.
When it comes to romance, it’s hard to rival what you’ll find at Playa de la Casa. It has everything you could want to make your time together magical, whether it’s creating a union or marking the joy of having just formed one.
