Being a busy mom of a toddler and the editor of a magazine, it’s not often I’m able to escape these days to research destinations for each issue. I made an exception after visiting the website for Capella Pedregal. If it was half as good as it looked online, I’d be in for a treat. Turns out, it was more than a treat, it was tremendous.
Located on the pristine beaches of Los Cabos, Mexico, Capella Pedregal is the definition of luxurious pampering. Upon arrival, you will be offered a welcome drink – a fresh house-made margarita was my choice and set the mood for relaxation before we even made it to our room.
We were given a general overview of the property by one of the smiling staff members the minute we arrived. He showed us the stunning resort complete with infinity pools appearing to extend straight into the Pacific Ocean, immaculately kept grounds and whimsical touches such as star lanterns and brightly colored glass hearts hanging like ornaments from selected trees.
When we made our way to our ocean-front suite, we were unprepared for the beauty and splendor which awaited us. The ocean waves were crashing just 50 yards from the bedroom and the private (heated) plunge pool, perfectly placed hammock and fire pit were just begging for our attention. Inside the room with doors opening up to meet the private plunge pool was a lavishly appointed bed with a wood-carved headboard facing the ocean. No wonder they have no check-in or check-out times…who would ever want to leave this place?
A knock on the door revealed room service delivering the afternoon amenity – freshly made pico de gallo, guacamole and ice-cold beer. I had been there two hours and determined, this place is officially Heaven on Earth.
When it comes to food at Capella Pedregal, there are surprises and cravings satisfied around every turn. Don Manuel’s is the main restaurant and leaves nothing to be desired. No matter if it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, the cuisine is playful and made with expert talent, the freshest local ingredients and paired to perfection with the resort’s extensive wine list.
One stand-out is El Farrallon, their cliffside restaurant. This open-aired dining experience is one to write home about. The daily catch is displayed for you to personally select your dinner and to be grilled to perfection by the chef. As you await your meal, live music is performed, the waves crash on the rocks below and the sun sets in the distance. Beware, your heart just might skip a beat.
As for pampering here, Auriga Spa is a don’t miss. The moment you step foot past the giant wood doors, you are transported to a place of ultimate relaxation and indulgence.
The soft lighting, soothing colors and serenity pool are just the beginning. Each treatment starts with a foot washing ritual using fresh herbs and sumptuous oils. For the bride and groom, I highly recommend a couples massage to relax and unwind together.
Holding your destination wedding here is an absolute must. The ceremony locations are idyllic (think infinity pools ensconcing your guests and you surrounded by the Pacific Ocean) and the staff will attend to your every need. According to the resort’s romance manager, Cecilia Villanueva, “Here at Capella, our goal is to pamper our couples. We only have one wedding per day so we can focus entirely on that couple and give them the personalized service they deserve.” She went on to explain they can bring in anything a couple can dream up. From fire dancers to fireworks, no request is too large.
From the exquisite service to the stunning accommodations and most of all, the friendly-do-anything-for-you staff, this place is as close to Heaven on Earth as I’ve found. If I were to do my destination wedding again, Capella Pedregal would be at the top of my list. Without a doubt, it should be at the top of yours too.
