How a Single Setting Can Be Transformed from Daytime Pool Chic to a Sparkling Celebration Under The Stars
When you’re planning a destination wedding in Maui, it’s not just about finding a venue; it’s about choosing a setting that can deliver experiences. And sometimes, that means making one incredible venue work double duty. At Wailea Beach Resort’s Olakino Pool, couples can create not just one, but two unforgettable events in the same space. Thanks to the breathtaking photography of Sandra Åberg, expert planning of Taryn Stark Wyant and the design acumen of Dani Sabbag of Sabbag Design Studio, you don’t have to imagine what that transformation could look like.
Known for her editorial eye and ethereal style, Sandra Åberg’s imagery captures the magic of a destination wedding weekend like no one else. The Olakino Pool becomes more than a venue—it becomes the backdrop for two uniquely styled celebrations: a crisp and modern black and white pool party, and a shimmering, dreamlike “under the sea” dinner celebration.
Whether you’re planning a welcome party, rehearsal dinner, or reception, this versatile Maui space can transform dramatically, offering couples both beauty and practicality in one oceanfront location.

A Chic Black and White Poolside Welcome Party
Olakino Pool instantly transports you to an elevated version of island leisure. With its infinity-edge pool, private cabanas, swaying palms, and panoramic ocean views, the space invites relaxation and revelry alike. As the Pacific shimmers in the background, the black and white pool party feels sleek, editorial, and celebratory.

Real-life destination wedding couple MJ and Russel are seen soaking up the sun, with their new baby, while celebrating in style.
Chic design details like geometric patterned black and white towels, an oversized “Mama” tote, “bubbles and bites” signage, and modern floral design weaving in baby’s breath, dried bunny tails and white hydrangeas (designed by JG Signature Weddings), echo the timeless palette.

PRO TIP: To enhance your photos and your guest experience, suggest attire guidelines. For the pool party, guests were asked to wear poolside-appropriate attire in white and black.

Poolside bites were provided by Wailea Beach Resort and champagne was provided Moet & Chandon.
Aloha sunglasses were handed out to guests, as well as floral-adorned champagne flutes to elevate the overall experience.

PRO TIP: When planning a destination wedding, it’s important to make sure guests feel welcomed. A “swag bag” or “welcome bag” with local goodies is always a must. Guests at this event were treated to treats native to the Hawaiian islands like macadamia nuts, Ocean Vodka, Maui Babe Inc tanning lotion and artisan custom creations by Lucky Onion, Martina Lyons, Maui Brewing Company, Kupu Spirits, Woo Woo Crystal Co (candles) and all safely tucked away inside waterproof tote bags by Aloha Collective.

Iridescent “Under the Sea” Dinner at Sunset
As the sun dips below the horizon, Olakino Pool transforms into something entirely new: a romantic, opalescent dinner scene that feels like stepping into another world.

Off-set sweetheart tables adorned with pastel colored sequin linens by Nuage Designs create a wave design, while ghost chairs allow for the table decor to fully shine. A table garland of tropical plants and flowers by JG Signature Weddings weaves its way from one end of the connecting tables to the other with small glass-topped table lamps and iridescent flowers bringing the look full circle. The result: guests were swept into an immersive dinner experience they’ll never forget.

PRO TIP: Sunset is one of the most magical times of the day in Maui. Make sure to time your outdoor celebration so guests arrive in plenty of time to enjoy the setting sun.
Desserts are anything but an afterthought at this celebration. Cupcakes topped with bubbles, pastel colored macarons and tropical desserts in sherbet hues were provided by The Frosted Mermaid (even the company name was on brand here!)

For couples considering a destination wedding in Maui, these photos remove the guesswork of “what will it really look like?” and replace it with a clear and stunning reality. You can see exactly how one location can become two distinct moments, without ever feeling repetitive.
