Planning a wedding can be a daunting task, but for high school friends, Mary and Ryan, who reconnected and fell in love 20 years later over Hinge, a destination wedding in Los Cabos would be a dream come true. The couple knew they wanted a destination wedding, and after visiting Nobu Hotel Los Cabos twice before, they fell in love with the property.

“When faced with all the beautiful [venue] choices of venues in Cabo,” the couple says, “we wanted somewhere everyone could stay the whole weekend and really get to know each other. Nobu’s setting and service had always made us feel special and at home.”

Mary and Ryan chose the Baja Modern theme for their wedding and went with a fiesta theme for their rehearsal dinner. They wanted to fit in with the modern aesthetic of Nobu’s surroundings, so they chose a color scheme of black, tan, and gold for their table decor. For the flowers, they went with a mix of reds, pinks, and oranges for the wedding, and burgundy wine reds for the rehearsal dinner, close to Christmas time.

“Our florist was Pina Cate, and she did an incredible job!” Mary says. “In both events, the flowers were beyond impressive – whimsical and unique.”

The escort cards were glass-blown Milagros with gold Otomi patterns hung on a black and wood structure. For the place cards, guests’ names were printed on their menus at their seats. The wedding favors were numerous, from alibrijes, maracas, fans, Milagros, to máscaras.

“And our welcome bags,” the bride says, “were probably my favorite thing to put together. We gave each guest black and white Oaxaca market bags stuffed inside with bajadas blankets, Mexican sweets, and custom black trucker hats we had made with our wedding hashtag on it: #RyGotMaryed.”

Mary and Ryan had four favorite moments of the entire event: their first look moment on the balcony of their Nobu Suite, surprising Ryan with Mojigangas that led them from cocktails to the reception space, the first 15-minutes of their reception when the guests put them up on their shoulders, to ending their reception with a 90’s sing-along.

Through the destination wedding experience, the couple learned that the little details really do add up to the whole experience and are truly appreciated by guests. Mary and Ryan also tell us they had to learn to be flexible, as planning a destination wedding requires extra effort and attention to detail.

When asked how Mary and Ryan would sum up their wedding day in one sentence, they say: “An incredible weekend of our closest family & friends that united and reunited 20 years of friendships.”
