Bengali-Korean couple, Evana and Daniel wanted to find a destination for their wedding where they could honor both of their heritages without heavily favoring either. The couple found their answer in the alluring paradise of Bali, Indonesia, specifically at the luxurious Amankila resort.

“Bali represents curiosity, adventure, and creativity for expats all over the world,” Evana explains. “It seemed appropriate for the type of low-key and authentic experience we were after.”

The choice of Amankila as their venue was particularly meaningful, as it connected to a touching piece of Daniel’s past. “Secretly, my husband used to scrapbook a lot back in high school,” Evana shares. “One of his favorite snippets was the Aman resort in Utah, Amangiri. I’ve never forgotten how much he loved the beauty of the Aman resorts, and we were fortunate to be able to have our wedding at Amankila.”

Evana and Daniel knew that they would need help with the Bali destination wedding planning process and entrusted their vision to planner, Jenni Grubba Events. Jenni and her planning team played an important role in coordinating with local vendors, creating welcome bags for their guests, and even ensuring Evana’s mother (who was undergoing chemotherapy at the time) could fully participate in every moment of the wedding.

The wedding day began with a traditional Balinese blessing performed by the resort’s local priest at Padmasana, the property’s picturesque temple. The celebration continued with a thoughtfully designed day that prioritized intimacy and comfort over formality. “Every detail was towards that aim,” says Evana. The couple made sure to incorporate personal touches such as a ceramic tea set from a San Francisco-based pottery and tea store, for their tea ceremony.

The reception was artfully designed, featuring a color palette of deep purples, oranges, pinks and wood accents. Each element complemented the celebration’s intimate atmosphere.

For couples who are considering their own destination weddings, Evana and Daniel emphasize the importance of staying true to your vision while also making sure that your guests feel cared for. “Prioritize a good planning team, photography and design,” Evana says. “Skip the lavish food. Something authentic and welcoming like the buffet we chose outside is perfect. Stay true to what’s important to you rather than getting swayed by what others believe is important.”

When asked about what they would have done differently, the couple’s answers make the heart swell. “Waiting for the “right time” to get married is silly. You can’t plan for every contingency. Just do it!
