It was after meeting at a mutual friend’s party, that Hannah and Ross’s love story began. “Ross and I met the last semester of senior year at Ithaca College,” says Hannah. “We dated from that point on!” After getting engaged, the couple took a trip to Chebeague Island, Maine. It’s safe to say the destination blew them away.
The couple decided on Chebeague Island for their destination wedding after falling in love with the resort and finding out about the easy access to the golf course. “Ross’s first love is golf,” says the bride, adding, “what we liked most about this venue is that we were able to take over the entire Inn for the weekend.” Another benefit to selecting Chebeague Island was the ease and convenience for guests to travel from the mainland to the ferry.
“We didn’t want a destination that would be super difficult for our guests to get to,” says the groom. “There’s something special about traveling with friends and being able to see guests arrive that helps build the anticipation for the event.”
When it came to planning their special day, Hannah dealt with most of the couple’s arrangements with the help of Caitlyn from the Chebeague Island Inn and extra hands from Lindsay Jayne Events for day-of coordination only. The couple opted for digital invitations, through this guests could RSVP, choose their entrée, and outline any allergies.
“I have experience planning events, which helped,” the bride says. “Caitlyn at the Inn was also extremely helpful, super responsive, and very quick with communication. She was part of the reason we chose the Inn.”
Come wedding day, the couple exchanged vows in a ceremony led by two of their closest friends from college and surrounded by 70 of their friends and family. The couple held a beautiful reception with scrumptious food, live djing from The Glitter Boys, which set the tone for the night. All the guests enjoyed the disco hits, special drinks, memorable speeches, hours of dancing, and laughter, which made for the perfect party. Before the end night ended Hannah and Ross gifted their guest with party favors as a thank you for bringing in this joyful moment.
In the end, Hannah and Ross got everything they could’ve asked for and more when it came to their destination wedding.
The bride has some wise words of advice for other couple’s planning a destination wedding. “As hard it can be to be swayed by Instagram, family, and friends, do what’s important to you both,” says Hannah. “ If you want to skip the cake, speeches, dances – go for it! Don’t let anyone cramp your style.”
