Although the more than 40 weddings Christina attended across Southern California and beyond were all lovely, she desired something set apart for her own nuptials. Kualoa Ranch on the Hawaiian island of Oahu had that “je ne sais quoi.” Plus, opting for a Hawaiian wedding meant Christina and her soon-to-be husband, Andrew, could design a four-day wedding itinerary to truly live it up with their inner circle across the island known as “The Gathering Place.”

For Christina, Hawaii has always felt like home. Her father was born on Oahu’s North Shore, and much of her family still lives there today. For Andrew, the connection came later.

“He doesn’t come from a large family,” the bride says. Inevitably, when Andrew traveled to Hawaii to meet Christina’s family for the first time, he felt welcomed, embraced and connected in a way that was hard to describe. “I felt like I was returning to a home I didn’t know existed,” Andrew says.

That feeling played a huge part in the couple’s decision to wed on Oahu. “We wanted our guests to experience the same warmth, beauty and sense of belonging that Hawaii has always given us,” Christina shares.

Moving forward with clear confidence in the destination, Christina and Andrew began the venue hunt. In the preliminary stages, Andrew was floored by photos of Paliku Gardens at Kualoa Ranch, a setting overlooking a basalt islet just offshore called Mokoliʻi. Witnessing this majestic view in person was all it took for Christina and Andrew to sign on the dotted line.

“Beyond the scenery,” the bride says, “we loved how thoughtfully the venue flowed. The welcome champagne, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception were all located within a short walk of one another, allowing guests to remain immersed in the experience without having to travel between locations.”

In fact, Andrew and Christina considered their guests in just about every decision they made. The proof is in the meticulously planned four-day wedding week. Working in lockstep with family members local to Oahu and a dear friend and wedding planner extraordinaire, James of The Gay Agenda, the couple provided the experience of a lifetime.

“We jokingly (but also not so jokingly) called James our ‘Executive Producer’ because of how significantly he shaped the flow, design and overall experience of the wedding week and wedding day itself,” Christina says.

The fun consisted of a welcome party at the Hideout Waikiki, a private chartered bachelor/bachelorette cruise, the wedding day itself and a farewell brunch overlooking Diamond Head.

“One of our biggest goals was to create opportunities for everyone to connect before the wedding,” the couple shares. “We loved the idea of bringing all of our favorite people together and giving them time to build relationships so that by the time the wedding day arrived, it felt less like two families coming together and more like one big family celebrating alongside us.”

That goal can be declared as “achieved,” because when the wedding day rolled around, the love and joy felt palpable. Arranged in a semicircle for a more intimate experience, regal white chairs with gold accents, each adorned with personal fans, awaited guests at the ceremony.

“For decor, the vision was chic, elevated tropical glam,” Christina says. “We wanted the overall aesthetic to feel editorial and timeless, so we kept our color palette intentionally simple.”

At the end of a dramatic white runway stood a circular platform where Andrew awaited his bride. She stunned, stepping out in a mermaid gown by Lauren Elaine Bridal, holding an arrangement of white and green florals by Haus of Puas and played down the aisle by local musician Puka Tatupu.

Opting for a nontraditional ceremony, Christina tapped her longtime friend from ballet, Franky, to officiate. He wove a story that beautifully led into Christina and Andrew’s sweet exchange of personal vows.

“Marriage is about more than just the union of two people,” the bride says. “It’s the coming together of families, friendships and communities. There was something incredibly special about standing together at the start of this new chapter, with one of the people who had witnessed so much of our individual growth and shared history leading the way.”

Following the ceremony, the celebration transitioned seamlessly into the reception. Linenless white tables were set with statement gold chairs, while tall hurricane vases holding long calla lilies and orchids anchored the tablescapes.

Christina donned an ethereal gown by Milla Nova and heels by Jimmy Choo and Amina Muaddi, while Andrew wore a bespoke suit by B. Spoke Style.

Puka Tatupu serenaded the newlyweds for their first dance, followed by dinner catered by Memoirs Hawaii and a full night of dancing courtesy of DJ Compose.

Looking back on their five pre-wedding planning trips, the couple emphasizes how essential local support was to bringing their vision to life. “Planning a destination wedding naturally amplifies decision-making and communication,” Christina says. “Having a team that knows the land and the venue inside and out allows you to focus less on logistics and more on the experience you’re creating together.”

By the time the final farewell brunch wrapped near Diamond Head, two families had truly become one tight-knit community, forever bonded by four legendary days on the island.
