With a love for travel, adventure and art, it was a no-brainer when Regina and Rob decided on a destination wedding in Mexico. Combining their personal interests and the unique setting, the couple decided to write their own story on the sandy beach and under the beautiful blue sky of Playa del Carmen.

As a wedding planner, Regina had planned weddings all over Arizona and knew that she wanted her story to be different. With plans to originally get married in San Jose del Cabo, after a hurricane hit, their initial destination was scrapped. With some research, the lovebirds found Xcaret in Playa del Carmen and their perfect destination wedding was underway.

“As a planner it was important for me to have a planner involved. I know how invaluable their knowledge and experience can be,” says the bride. Hiring shuttles to handle all airport arrivals and departures, as well as transportation to and from the hotel to the wedding, allowing the bride to use her own talents to make the day flow effortlessly.

In good company of family and friends, the couple knew the destination was worth the trip to the tip of Southern Mexico, “Overall, they knew we would throw a good party, so with a bit of planning we made sure everyone had passports and packed bags!”

Wearing a ring made by her grandfather and a dress that her mother had hand-painted, Regina pronounced her love for Rob in a small chapel with unique Day of the Dead art. “I would do it all over again exactly the same. It’s not often you can get the whole family together for an experience like this,” said the bride.

With a seven course dinner in a cave that was turned into a wine cellar, the couple wanted to personalize all the details from dinner menus and thank you cards on monster leafs with orchid details. Watercolor sets identical to the details found on the wedding dress were given in welcome bags and books picked out by the couple were only some of the DIY details included.

Sharing stories, laughter and love with their guests until it was time to end their perfect day, the couple believes their wedding wouldn’t have been as special done anywhere else. “How often do you get to dine in a cave?” asks the bride.

Content with their happy ending, we asked the lovely couple to share some advice for other couples who are planning their own destination wedding. “Hire a planner, be prepared for the unexpected and relax. The day is going to fly by.”
