When college sweethearts Britney and Quinton envisioned their wedding day, one thing was certain: it had to be by the water. Lovers of ocean views and elegant style, the couple set their sights on Cabo San Lucas, Mexico—specifically, The Cape, a venue that had captured Britney’s heart years prior on a girls’ trip. With panoramic views of the iconic Arch, sleek modern design, and ocean-facing rooms, it offered everything they could dream of and more.

From Campus to Cabo

The pair’s love story began at Spelman and Morehouse Colleges in Atlanta, Georgia—two historically Black institutions with a tightly knit community. “We spent a lot of time together at campus events, late-night study sessions, and group activities,” Britney recalls. “Over time, our friendship deepened, and it became clear that we were meant for something more.”

It was that genuine connection, built on laughter and shared goals, that led them to plan a destination wedding centered on joy, intention, and celebration.

A Venue With a View

Britney didn’t have to look far when choosing a venue. “I stayed at The Cape in 2018 for a girls’ trip and instantly fell in love with the hotel. The breathtaking views from the Rooftop, especially overlooking the iconic Arch, made it an easy choice for our wedding venue,” she says. The couple worked with the renowned team at Amy Abbott Events, including planners Pamela and Jimena, who ensured that every detail—big and small—was executed flawlessly.

While planning any wedding from afar presents its challenges, Britney credits her team and vendors for creating a seamless experience. “Megan at The Cape was incredible, and our planners really brought my vision to life. The hardest part? Choosing between all the amazing options Cabo has to offer!”

Designing a Celebration to Remember

Britney and Quinton curated a modern, chic aesthetic for their big day, inviting guests to wear all black for a high-contrast, fashion-forward look. Their color palette of black and white set the tone for an elegant affair with personalized flair.

To kick off the celebration, they replaced the traditional seating chart with a shot wall—a playful twist that got everyone in the party spirit. From there, guests were treated to a stylish scene filled with custom signage, romantic candlelight, and a carefully crafted atmosphere. “My Maid of Honor took on all the DIY projects,” Britney says, “from the ‘Oh Shit Kit’ to custom signs for the wedding party’s grand entrance.” One of the bride’s favorite details was the mirror included for guests to check their look and snap great photos.

The florals by Floral Dreams by Vero Romo struck a balance between bold and refined, creating a stunning ceremony focal point. For the reception, the design pivoted to candlelight romance, with a floral-forward head table anchoring the space. And no celebration would be complete without a photo booth, which guests took full advantage of thanks to Photo Booth Pro.

Honoring Heritage & Heart

Britney walked down the aisle accompanied by her mother, a deeply meaningful choice. “My mom raised me as a single mother, so having her by my side was incredibly special,” she shares.

The couple also chose to incorporate the African American tradition of jumping the broom, a powerful symbol of new beginnings, unity, and honoring their ancestors.

True to their fun-loving nature, Britney and Quinton skipped the garter and bouquet toss, instead leaving plenty of room in the evening for dancing, laughter, and pure celebration—complete with beats by Alex DJ Cabo Events and music from Andrea Caly.

The Power of Planning (and Previews)

One of the biggest advantages Britney credits in planning from afar was having a strong planning team. “My planners (I can’t stress this enough) were absolutely everything,” she says. The planners were based in Cabo, so they had eyes and ears on the ground.

The couple made a few key visits, including a venue walk-through and tasting. “We had mood boards, photos, and tons of calls,” Britney adds.

An Intimate, Immersive Experience

Choosing a destination wedding brought more than just beautiful backdrops—it brought their loved ones together in an immersive, unforgettable experience. “If we had married at home, it would’ve felt larger and less intimate,” says Britney. “Our guests wouldn’t have had the chance to explore Cabo, bond on the boat day, or dance under the stars with that incredible view.” From a Welcome Party that set the tone to a day on the water with Pelican Cabo, the weekend brought lots of celebration.

Advice from the Bride

“Planning your special day is a lot of work, but it’s worth every second,” Britney says. Be intentional and stay true to what you and your partner want, the bride adds. Her final tip? “If you can, try to stay by your partner’s side throughout the night. Soak it all in together, because these are the moments you’ll cherish and look back on forever.”
