A Romantic St. John Wedding at The Windmill Bar

Turquoise waters, a steady island breeze, and a historic stone windmill perched above it all. For Hannah and Jack, that view wasn’t just a pretty backdrop; it was their spot. “When we started dating, we shared a romantic moment in the windmill at the bar,” Hannah recalls. “We looked at each other and said, ‘What if we got married here?’” Fast forward a few years, and that casual ‘what if’ turned into their dream wedding day on St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands.

A collage of seaside scenes: a sailboat on calm water, a group on a paddleboard, a man in sunglasses on a deck, and an empty outdoor ceremony setup facing the ocean. A bride gets ready with help, groomsmen wait outdoors, and a floral arrangement sits on a cliff overlooking the ocean and islands.

The couple said “I do” on February 15, 2025, at The Windmill Bar, overlooking the Caribbean Sea. If you ask them why they chose this spot, Jack’s answer says it all: “If you see this view… It’s a no-brainer! Breathtaking.” The setting didn’t need much embellishment; Hannah and Jack let the island take center stage, with tropical florals from Buds and Roses Fiori adding just the right pop of color. “We wanted the focal point to be the view of the Caribbean,” Hannah says. “We kept florals tropical and let the island shine.”

A wedding ceremony is held outdoors on a hilltop with an ocean view, featuring the couple, officiant, attendants in orange, and guests seated in sunlight. A couple in wedding attire poses and smiles outdoors with scenic views and old stone ruins in the background.

Their ceremony was as heartfelt as it was simple. “Our good friend married us,” Hannah shares. “We wrote our own vows. We wanted an intimate and personal ceremony, and we nailed it.” A steel drum player provided the soundtrack, giving the day a perfectly island vibe without any over-the-top frills.

One of the sweetest touches? Photos of their late grandparents were displayed at the celebration. “We were both very close with our respective grandparents,” says Hannah, “so we made sure they were there in spirit.”

Planning a wedding from afar might sound stressful, but for Hannah, it felt natural. “Because I grew up going there, I knew the island and the vendors pretty well, which really helped!” she explains. The couple found that every vendor, from Phil and Christa Porto, their photographers, to DJ Dell, who got everyone dancing, was easy to communicate with. “Everything went off without a hitch,” Hannah says.

A couple embraces and laughs at an outdoor location near the water; inset photos show a display of framed pictures and a scenic bay with boats. A collage shows a couple in wedding attire dancing indoors, guests dancing, and a scenic view of a rocky shoreline with blue water and distant islands.

Their wedding “cake” was another island-inspired twist: a Key Lime Pie from Morgan’s Mango, the perfect ending to a day that was relaxed, authentic, and uniquely them.

From a fateful kiss in a windmill to a real wedding with a view, Hannah and Jack’s St. John celebration proves that sometimes, the best destination weddings are born from a spontaneous moment!
