Kynan and Lucy’s Lake Tahoe destination wedding story is marked by legacy and over a decade-long journey from college besties to husband and wife.

While many couples choose a destination for its novelty, Kynan and Lucy selected South Lake Tahoe for its significance in their family. In fact, Kynan’s parents were married at a nearby beach and hosted their reception at the same venue the couple later chose: the Edgewood Resort. Having vacationed in beautiful Lake Tahoe for years, Kynan and Lucy viewed the lake not as a far-off locale, but as a “second home.”

“To be honest,” Lucy says, “we didn’t really see it as a destination wedding as it’s very much a second home, although our guests definitely did!”

Twelve Years in the Making

The couple’s path to the altar began twelve years ago when they met as freshmen at university through a mutual friend. “We… became immediate best friends,” Lucy recalls. Following graduation, both moved to Los Angeles, where their relationship reached a turning point. “Our friendship grew to something more,” she says, noting that their long history together made the decision to marry feel like a natural next step.

Planning a “Garden-Natural” Vision

Right away, the couple partnered with planner Megan from Louise & Third to create an aesthetic for their nuptials, Lucy describes as “garden-natural but modern.”

“We always gravitated to the color blue,” the bride says, “so when we locked in Tahoe, we knew pulling inspiration from the blue of the lake was the way to go.”

When a renovation delay threatened their original indoor reception space, the couple didn’t panic; they pivoted. The Edgewood provided a majestic lakeside marquee that “exceeded expectations,” placing their celebration under the vast Tahoe sky.

The Celebration Begins

A large paddlewheel steamboat docked at a pier on a lake, with people on the upper deck and mountains in the background.

The wedding weekend kicked off with a cocktail cruise on the historic M.S. Dixie II. This choice was deeply personal, as the boat was the site of one of the couple’s very first adventures together in Tahoe. It served as the perfect introduction to the destination for guests who had traveled from across the United States and the United Kingdom to celebrate.

A Meaningful Ceremony

The ceremony took place with the sparkling lake as a backdrop, featuring a “broken” floral arch designed to highlight the natural scenery. The couple chose Kynan’s sister to officiate the service.

“It meant a lot to us to have someone marry us who knew us deeply, making the ceremony that much more special,” Lucy sharesA bride and groom walk hand-in-hand outdoors, smiling and waving, surrounded by floral arrangements with a lake and mountains in the background.

Refined Reception Details

The reception offered personalized design at every turn, featuring a “wave” seating chart to mimic the shoreline and a massive floral ring with disco balls over the dance floor.

Arguably, one of the most unique features was a “Whiskey Library” created to honor Lucy’s father, a whiskey connoisseur. “Inspired by his personal collection, we thought it would be really special for guests traveling from afar to experience the library in Tahoe,” Lucy explains. The space was transformed into a swanky speakeasy with black drapes, leather couches, and tartan blankets.

Reflecting on the Experience

Lucy offers advice to other couples navigating the planning process: “The most important part of any wedding is that you two get married.” She encourages others to let go of the pressure of perfection on the big day. “Try and drop all of the stress & expectations and just be in the moment,” she says. “Focus on having the most fun with your life partner and you won’t be disappointed.”
