Did you know several movies have been filmed in or around Woodstock, Vermont? Among those is Dr. Cook’s Garden (1971), Ghost Story (1981) and Funny Farm (1988), according to Wikipedia. Woodstock isn’t just prime for movies but weddings as well. It’s no wonder why couples and directors are drawn to the little rural Vermont town. Leah and Daniel’s destination wedding among the fall-colored trees and a glowing white barn is a perfect example of one reason to marry in Woodstock, VT.

Leah is originally from Vermont, quick originally drew the couple to consider marrying in Vermont. They both wanted somewhere surrounded by nature, with personal significance, where guests could get away from their home city and take in the beauty and quaintness of Vermont.

“I did consult Sydney (our wedding coordinator) multiple times about where guests could stay as fall is an extremely popular time of year to get married in the area, where to eat and what activities would be fun for various age groups,” the bride says.

The couple did have to face a few main challenges with the remoteness of the location. Firstly, the financial expense of hosting a destination wedding, in general, pushed Leah and Daniel to budget and spend carefully. The second challenge was figuring out how to get everyone safely to Woodstock as it would require multiple forms of transportation for many guests.

“I would highly recommend to any bride and groom planning a destination wedding, especially if it is off the beaten trail (i.e. away from a big accessible city), is to make it absolutely clear that guests should plan on carpooling or renting a car,” Leah says.

With the challenges of planning a more remote destination wedding as came the many, many perks. “We did have to make a separate trip up to Vermont for our menu tasting which was tricky coordinating our busy schedules, but we had a blast doing so regardless,” the couple says.

Reflecting back on their choice to wed in Woodstock, the couple thinks they ended up spending a bit more than they would have with a hometown wedding, but that the serene beauty of the Vermont countryside was priceless.
