Maui has always held a rare position in the destination wedding world as an iconic, emotionally resonant, and visually unmatched destination, and in the last year, it has re-emerged with new momentum. After a period of recovery and recalibration across the Hawaiian Islands, couples and planners are once again prioritizing Maui not just for its scenery, but for its stability, its hospitality, and its ability to deliver deeply experiential weddings that feel both elevated and grounded in place. That resurgence was on full display at the most recent Engage! Summit hosted at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua, which signaled to the industry that Maui is not only back, its being reimagined as a leading global wedding destination.

At the center of that story is Kapalua, a stretch of Mauis northwest coast known for its dramatic lava rock cliffs, crescent-shaped bays, and panoramic ocean views. The setting alone has always been compelling, but whats changed is the way couples and planners are now using the island: fewer transactional weddings and more immersive multi-day experiences that lean into landscape, culture, and intentional guest connection.

Why Maui is Bigger Than Ever for Destination Weddings

Mauis return to prominence is tied to a few clear shifts in the market. First is the continued desire for one-location weddings,” where guests dont just fly in for a ceremony, but stay for several days of shared experiences. Maui naturally supports this model. From oceanfront resorts to wellness-driven itineraries, the island makes it easy to extend a wedding into a full journey.

The second factor is emotional positioning. Couples are increasingly choosing destinations that feel meaningful rather than purely aesthetic. Maui delivers both, but what sets it apart is its sense of place, where ocean, mountain, and Hawaiian cultural traditions are not backdrops but active parts of the experience. Resorts like The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua have leaned into this by integrating local storytelling, spa rituals rooted in Hawaiian tradition, and programming that connects guests to the land rather than just the property.

Finally, there is the practical reality: Maui is as stable as ever in its luxury hospitality offerings. Venues, staffing, and event infrastructure across key resorts are in lock step, giving confidence to planners producing high-end weddings and celebratory events.

Letting the Resort Be Your Destination Wedding Anchor

The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua remains one of the islands most significant wedding properties, not just because of its scale but because of its variety of event environments. Couples can move from oceanfront lawns to ballroom receptions without ever leaving the resort footprint, which is increasingly important for multi-day celebrations.

The property offers expansive indoor and outdoor venues designed for everything from intimate ceremonies to large-scale events, supported by experienced teams who are deeply familiar with destination production logistics. What makes it especially compelling for weddings is the way the property blends polished luxury with the rawness of its surroundings. Think lava rock coastlines, rolling fairways, and uninterrupted Pacific views.

That balance is exactly what has made Kapalua a natural host for industry gatherings like Engage!.

Engage! Summit Heads to Maui

One of the most visible signals of Mauis wedding resurgence came with Engage!26 Maui, held June 8–11, 2026 at The Ritz-Carlton Maui, Kapalua. The summit brought together hundreds of the worlds leading wedding and event professionals for immersive education, collaboration, and curated experiences designed specifically for the destination.

What set this particular Engage! Summit apart was not just the programming, but how fully it leaned into Maui itself as a co-host and the people who make this destination so magnificent.

From the moment attendees arrived, the island was not treated as a backdrop, it was part of the curriculum. Sessions and experiences were designed around the spirit of Aloha,” encouraging planners and creatives to think about hospitality, guest experience, and top notch service by following the example of their gracious hosts.

Embracing Maui in the Details

Across the summit, the integration of the destination showed up in subtle but intentional ways. Floral design palettes reflected the natural tones of Maui’s coastline and upland landscapes rather than imported trend-driven color stories. Dining experiences highlighted local sourcing and island-inspired menus, reinforcing Mauis identity as both luxurious and grounded.

Even the pacing of the event reflected the island. Engage! is known for blending education with networking and downtime, but in Maui, all of that took on a different meaning. Instead of just elaborate ballrooms (and those were offered too), guests enjoyed ocean views, open-air gathering spaces, and moments designed for reflection rather than just networking. That shift matters in a post-pandemic luxury landscape where burnout and overstimulation have become real considerations for couples and industry professionals alike.

The Ritz-Carlton Kapaluas layout also played a role. Its expansive outdoor lawns, ocean-facing event spaces, and secluded pathways allowed the summit to move fluidly between formal sessions and experiential moments without losing cohesion. Looking back on the experience, it made it abundantly clear that any event here would benefit in the same way. The propertys scale makes it possible to host large gatherings while still preserving the intimacy that couples strive for.

Why Maui Truly is One of the Best Destinations for Weddings

What Engage! ultimately demonstrated is the same thing couples are responding to: Maui is no longer being sold as a postcard. It is being experienced as a layered destination.

For weddings, that means couples can enjoy multi-day participatory events instead of one-offs. This is where guest experiences include spa, wellness, beautiful food and immersion in nature unlike most places. Maui allows the design of the wedding to respond to the environment rather than overriding it, due to its strong emphasis on cultural respect and hospitality.

Couples are also increasingly drawn to the predictability Maui offers in terms of luxury service standards and vendor ecosystems, which makes it easier to execute high-end destination events without compromising creativity.

Maui’s Resurgence

Mauis resurgence is not about returning to what it was before. Its about evolving into what destination weddings are becoming. The island is now functioning less as a backdrop and more as a collaborator in event design.

And events like Engage! at The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua reinforce that shift. When the worlds top planners, designers, and creative partners gather in a place and collectively design around it, that place becomes more than relevant. It becomes directive.
