Some love stories begin in grand, cinematic ways. Kaitlyn and Taylor’s happened somewhere a little more scrubs-and-stethoscopes: the pediatric nursing floor where they both worked. But don’t let the ordinary setting fool you; what these two built together is anything but ordinary, and the wedding they threw in Key West was proof of that in every detail.

Finding the Dream Before the Ring
Before there was an engagement, there was a vacation. Kaitlyn and Taylor were exploring Key West when they stumbled upon a wedding unfolding at the Audubon House. The lush greenery. The historic bones of the property. The way the whole place felt like it had been waiting to host a celebration exactly like that.
They filed it away. And when the time came to plan their own wedding, neither of them had forgotten it.
“We visited Key West before we were engaged and saw a wedding at the Audubon House and fell in love with the greenery and historic feel of the venue,” Taylor says.

The Audubon House: A Venue Out of the Ordinary
From the start, Kaitlyn and Taylor knew what they wanted: something smaller, something intimate, something that felt like them rather than a generic venue package back home. A destination wedding wasn’t about escaping the ordinary for its own sake; it was about finding a setting worthy of the celebration they had in mind.
The Audubon House delivered on every count. With the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all flowing seamlessly within the same lush, historic property, the couple never had to worry about shuttling guests across town or losing the mood between moments. The verdant surroundings did much of the decorating themselves.

The Weather Scare
October in Key West is a gamble. The couple knew this going in, and sure enough, in the days leading up to the wedding, forecasts turned ominous. Rain was expected to arrive right as their ceremony was set to begin.
This is where trust in their planner, in each other, and in the process became everything. Working closely with Guadalupe from Little Miss Wedding Planner, they made some tough calls about tents and guest coverage, bracing for whatever the sky might deliver.
And then? The clouds held. The ceremony happened under open skies. The rain only arrived after their reception wrapped, as if nature itself decided to give these two nurses the day they deserved.

A Wedding Full of Intention
If there’s one word that defines Kaitlyn and Taylor’s wedding aesthetic, it’s intentional. Every detail was chosen to reflect who they are as a couple, not simply what weddings are “supposed” to look like.
Signage by Blue Thistle Studio‘s Kayla became an unexpected highlight: a welcome sign, seating chart, and bar signs that featured photos of their dogs. Personal? Absolutely. Smile-inducing for every single guest? Without question.

Perhaps the most memorable touch of the evening was a local artist who spent a few hours at the reception offering five-minute couple’s portraits, hand-drawn keepsakes that guests could take home at the end of the night. In a world of generic wedding favors, it was the kind of gesture that makes people talk for years.

A Ceremony That Honored Both Tradition and Authenticity
Kaitlyn and Taylor will be the first to acknowledge that two women getting married doesn’t fit a traditional template, and they embraced that with grace and humor. At the same time, they both wanted a ceremony that felt classic and meaningful.
Their best friend from work, a colleague who had watched their love story unfold from the very beginning, stood at the altar as their officiant. And both women wrote their own vows, reading them aloud to each other in front of the people they love most.
“We both wrote our own vows and read them to each other in front of our family and friends, which we thought was so special,” they said. It’s hard to argue with that.

The Planner Who Made It All Possible
For any couple considering a destination wedding, Kaitlyn and Taylor have one piece of advice they’ll give without hesitation: hire a wedding planner.
“Guadalupe from Little Miss Wedding Planner saved us so much stress and time,” Kaitlyn says. With demanding careers and busy schedules, the couple needed someone who could quarterback the logistics so they could simply show up and be present.
They visited Key West twice during the planning process, and with Guadalupe’s help, two trips was all it took.

On the Other Side of Planning
Like anyone who’s been through it, Kaitlyn and Taylor will tell you: wedding planning is stressful. It’s expensive, time-consuming, and full of decisions that feel impossibly high-stakes in the moment.
But standing on the other side of it, with the photos, the video, and all the memories, both women say it was worth every bit of it.
“I can truly say I enjoyed every minute of our wedding weekend. Even with the stress from the bad weather! It was honestly perfect.”
That’s the thing about destination weddings done right. When the location is meaningful, the vendors are talented, the planner is exceptional, and the love story is real, even October rain becomes part of the magic.
